Jayden

Is this a reasonable choice for a baby boy? My friend wants to choose it... she's white and middle class. It just seems a strange choice to me.

Good job it's none of your business then.

Puppypal20 · 23/10/2020 20:29

Jayden was listed as #38 of top boys names for last year. So it’s a fairly popular name.

DisorganisedPurpose · 23/10/2020 20:31

My thought was no when I saw the message header

lljkk · 23/10/2020 20:38

White & middle class sounds exactly like who I'd expect to use this name.

Kanaloa · 23/10/2020 20:39

All the Jaydens I’ve ever met have been white. I don’t think it’s that strange a choice, it’s a pretty inoffensive name and has a nice sound. Not my personal style but popular in my area. My son had two friends in year one called Kaiden & Jayden.

Palavah · 23/10/2020 20:40

I don't like it. It's entirely up to her.

user1493494961 · 23/10/2020 20:43

I would say it's the opposite of a middle-class name.

Southwestinmybones · 23/10/2020 20:46

I know it's up to her... of course! Just wondered if my initial reaction to it was unique to me or not...

I don't like it. I know what you mean OP, but lots of people on MN get very upset when you suggest that names are linked to socio-economic groupings so be prepared to don your tin hat!

Hailtomyteeth · 23/10/2020 20:49

Just embarrassing, really.

Drogonssmile · 23/10/2020 20:50

I once saw it spelt Jaid'n which is worse imho.

Rainbowllama4 · 23/10/2020 20:51

Maybe if a few more white middle class parents named their children Jayden, Tyler, Lily Mae etc then other children with these names and similar will not be judged quite so much both now and when they apply for jobs as adults. Mind your own and don’t be such a snob.

Nackajory · 23/10/2020 20:51

Chavvy tbh

N4ish · 23/10/2020 20:52

I’d say it’s a white working class name. I know a lovely little boy called Jayden but it’s not a name I would ever choose for my own son.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 23/10/2020 20:52

Jayden will likely date badly as it rose so suddenly in the late 90's/ 2000's. If I was her and loved the sound of it, I'd use a more classic J starting name on the birth certificate instead (James or Jonathan maybe) and then call him "Jay".

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 23/10/2020 20:52

Reasonable?
What on earth do you mean? Confused

Igotmyholiday · 23/10/2020 20:52

Hate the name, don't think it's middle class but would stay out of it

PeaceAndHarmoneeee · 23/10/2020 20:53

What has being white and middle class got to do with choosing this as a name?

It's a made up, fairly common name imho.

TwilightSkies · 23/10/2020 20:54

The name Jayden is never well received on here because a lot of MNers despise anything ‘chavvy’, working-class or council estate. Just snobbery really.
It’s a perfectly fine name. Better than Julian or Tobias anyway.

She should only use the name if she’s poor.
VHSappy · 23/10/2020 20:55

I don't like it at all but I'd never say that to a friend wanting to use it. Unless she asked for my honest opinion.

I associate it with Britney's son/naughty kid with a shaved head being shouted at in Asda.

CrazylazyJane · 23/10/2020 20:58

I'm not keen on the name but it's not really any of your business, really.

hesaidshesaidwhat · 23/10/2020 20:59

White but not from MC

DramaAlpaca · 23/10/2020 21:00

What a snobbish OP.

Toilenstripes · 23/10/2020 21:02

It’s what Philip Green’s daughter, Chloe, named her son. Awful name.
