When you see this name would you think it is a boys name or a girls name? Really struggling to decide on a boys name and the name Lux is one that me and DH both like but I don't know if we will use it or if it is more feminine.

Soap or a measurement of light.

PurBal · 16/10/2020 18:59

Means light. Never heard of the soap.

AdaColeman · 16/10/2020 19:18

Soap & washing powder.

Firebird83 · 16/10/2020 19:22

Rhymes with fucks. I would reconsider!

SunshineCake · 16/10/2020 19:23

An actress has recently named her son Mexx.

I worried I'd given my children boring names but I realise I did good.

Toilenstripes · 16/10/2020 19:23

Try Lucca for a boy. It’s a lovely place in Italy.

FlapsInTheWind · 16/10/2020 19:29

Luz means light too. It's used as a girls name and is much nicer.

Rayna37 · 16/10/2020 19:36

I'm normally pretty traditional on names but actually I like it- definitely a girls name to me though.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 16/10/2020 19:36

I am usually of the opinion that posters worrying about future bullying are overthinking, because in my experience kids tease each other for millions of things but not often names.

However. Even I would think it ill-advised to give a child who will be educated in the UK a name that rhymes with 'sucks' and 'fucks'. Sorry.

Garcellesaidwhaaat · 16/10/2020 19:38

Please, please for the love of God call him Lux-Lether.

Garcellesaidwhaaat · 16/10/2020 19:40

Lux makes me think of a young couple with lots of fake tan and blinding white teeth buying a flash car together at the car dealership and as she strokes the interior with her manicured hand she remarks "Babes, this is proper lux ain't it."

puptent · 16/10/2020 19:48

Lux Interior of the Cramps is the only Lux I've heard of (and guess what, it wasn't even his real name!) I kind of like it actually.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 16/10/2020 19:52

I've never heard of the soap before, I'm a lighting designer so my first thought is lumens per meter squared. Second thought is a boys name, possibly German.

MikeUniformMike · 16/10/2020 19:55

Use it as a middle name, first name Fiat. Or for a girl, Dee as a first name.

AreYouThere · 16/10/2020 20:11

I immediately thought of Lux flakes the washing powder

Kanaloa · 16/10/2020 20:12

I would probably think it was a boy because it reminds me of a youtuber called Callux. It’s not my favourite name.

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 16/10/2020 20:46

Detergent.

Rhymes with fucks.

Don't do it.

LottieDot · 16/10/2020 21:12

Never heard of the soap before!

I know of both a girl and boy with this name but the girls is Luxe. I think I prefer boy, but its not my style.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 16/10/2020 23:52

My mum used to always buy Lux soap when I was growing up. Haven’t thought about it in years though and it wasn’t my first thought on this thread.

I would have assumed boys name and that it had been picked because it meant light.

However my first association was that it’s also a measure of light in electronic products, and yes, made me think of the nightclub in Lucifer too!

Lex?

thatonesmine · 16/10/2020 23:58

I used to know a Luz, she had a Portuguese mum. It's a much nicer name. Pronounced to rhyme with Ruth.

Doublechins · 17/10/2020 00:05

One of the moms on teen mom has a son named Lux

SunShinesStill · 17/10/2020 00:07

Boy. Teen mom one of the cash has a boy called Lux

It also made me think of an attempt at associating with luxury
BreastedBoobilyToTheStairs · 17/10/2020 00:46

I've always thought soap, then girl (from the Virgin Suicides as pps have said) but know someone that has recently used it for one of her DS' middle names which is the only time I've heard it IRL.
