me and DH watched Enola Holmes recently with his nieces and would love the same name for DD. We do thinks it's a little different though! Any thoughts??

Makes me think of Enola Gay. The plane and the song. Got a bloody earworm now.

LadyWithLapdog · 27/09/2020 20:51

No, Enola Gay.

How about Elna? I’ve just come across it in The Dutch House by Ann Patchett.

PyongyangKipperbang · 27/09/2020 20:58

I wouldnt and for the same reasons as above.

I couldnt name a child the same name as the plane responsible for the first atomic bomb drop.

RunningFromInsanity · 27/09/2020 21:12

The history around the first nuclear strike isn’t going to go away well it clearly has as the younger members on here hasn’t heard of it...

im5050 · 27/09/2020 21:17

I don’t know ...
On holiday in Mexico the receptionist at the hotel name was. Isis 😂
I actually quite liked her name but for most people it will forever be associated with ISIS

theworldhasfallenoutmybottom · 27/09/2020 21:33

What are people on about when they say it won't be relevant to this generation? It will always be relevant to all future generations!
It didn't happen when I was a kid but I still know about it because it's of major importance!

Slightlybrwnbanana · 27/09/2020 21:36

@Bwlch

I’m 27, know about Hiroshima etc but never heard of the name of the plane. It is not something taught in schools now.

Was it ever?

Well I taught it last year.
CaledoniaCatalan · 27/09/2020 21:44

Sorry op, Ebola Gay would be the first thing I'd think of, the plane and the song.
I don't think any of your DD's friends would link it but I'd like to hope the parents would know of at least the story of the actual plane

Noola?

NataliaOsipova · 27/09/2020 21:47

@Valkadin

The Enola Gay was the first plane to ever drop an atomic bomb. Not everyone is interested in history but I wouldn’t name a child with a name connected with that.
Absolutely. Please don’t.
frogswimming · 27/09/2020 21:55

Even if no one her generation knows it's the plane I wouldn't.

She might not get taught it in school. She will more than likely google her own name at some point.

"Mum, why did you name me the same as the plane that dropped the atomic bomb on hiroshima?"

VillageGreenTree · 27/09/2020 21:59

What about Enela instead?

DPotter · 27/09/2020 22:03

Sorry to add another dissenting voice - it instantly thought Enola Gay to mind as well. I'm sure she was a lovely woman and clearly her son loved her enough to name his plane after her, but oh the link with Hiroshima is too much for me. Would certainly bring me up short when first introduced to someone with that name.

markzuckerbergsgreytshirt · 27/09/2020 22:09

Yep Enola Gay. Don't use it. There are zillions out there...

sorryforswearing · 27/09/2020 22:10

Ebola Guy is my first thought too.

sorryforswearing · 27/09/2020 22:11

Enola . Auto correct changed it.

sorryforswearing · 27/09/2020 22:11

Ffs . Gay.

yikesanotherbooboo · 27/09/2020 22:14

Enola Gay is too much to get over imo and the name isn't that lovely as a stand alone .

mediumperiperi · 27/09/2020 22:17

I would think Enola Gay too

I think it's pretty sad to say that you don't know something because it wasn't taught to you at school. Do people not watch movies, watch documentaries or just Google stuff out of interest? I've learned a lot of stuff on MN like why the removal of Uncle Ben branding is long overdue.

I only did Chemistry and Physics at O level and have been trying to learn more biology recently because I wanted to know what t-cells are and how viruses mutate. I assumed that people generally wanted to learn more information rather than be satisfied with what they learned at school and never learning again.

Vgtasd · 27/09/2020 22:19

Sounds too like Ebola

Vgtasd · 27/09/2020 22:21

Sounds too like ebola

CarolVordermansBum · 27/09/2020 22:25

Its alone spelt backwards. Sorry but I hate it.

Gigglr · 27/09/2020 22:25

It's either very close to a deadly disease or is the name of the plane that delivered the first atomic bomb. Neither are very nice associations. I think you can do better.

Toddlerteaplease · 27/09/2020 22:25

Ebola Gay here as well. I'd constantly have the song in my head.
