Maud - more a like or hate name.

Maud probably goes with the trend for names I think of as old fashioned such as Alfie and Ivy though.

Maud is horrible. Mary is way better.

Maud is the most miserable sounding name I've ever heard.

Not Maud, for me it invokes an image of a bosom hoiking, sour faced older woman. Because that's what my great aunt Maud was.

I met a Maud when I was about ten - she was a similar age so would be 40ish now. After asking her name four times and finally working out that she wasn’t called ‘Mud’ I was so impressed - she was kind of a cool kid and it really stuck with me as a cool, unusual name.

However I do think it’s a hard one to pull off.

I like Mary.

Dd2 watches a show called The InBESTigators and the main character is called Maudie and she’s awesome. Not a name I would ever have thought of until I’d watched this show with DD, so definitely Maud over Mary.

Maud is terrible. It just conjures up images of a drab old scullery maid sorry! Mary is much more appealing.
