@EleanorOalike oops yes! I can tell I've horribly offended you so I can only apologise profusely!
They are similar names tho... (goes off to dig out my copy as I obviously don't deserve that B in English literature)

AlwaysLatte · 01/09/2020 22:19

Jaxon sounds pretentious, like all the other names spelt differently. So Jackson with Jack or Jack as a nickname? Or Jay? Melody is OK but shortened Mel is a bit dreary and with Belle it sounds like an attempt at a clever musical pun.

AlwaysLatte · 01/09/2020 22:22

Samuel is nice.

AlwaysLatte · 01/09/2020 22:23

Jacxon?? Poor kid.

celestebellman · 01/09/2020 22:27

Agree with everything that’s been said about Melody Belle being twee. Also, my main worry with calling a child Melody would be that she would end up being tone deaf - so would only use if you and your partner are extremely musical!

Jaxon is beyond dreadful. Jackson is not to my taste as I don’t like surnames as first names but at least it’s spelled correctly.

Samuel is lovely - Samuel Jack would be a great name.

Mummykins54 · 01/09/2020 22:31

If you choose Jaxon he will have to go through life spelling his name out for the rest of his life. Jackson would be better

Luckingfovely · 01/09/2020 22:41

Melody on its own is just about okay - with Belle, it's unbearable!

Jaxon? Please don't be serious!

Luckingfovely · 01/09/2020 22:43

Pretty sure this is a wind-up since OP hasn't returned...

Firebird83 · 02/09/2020 11:46

Jaxon with this spelling is awful. It’s the new Jayden. Please spell it Jackson if you do use it.

BikeTyson · 02/09/2020 11:50

I like Melody but not Belle.

I hate Jaxon but like Samuel.

But neither is outrageously bad, if those are the names you really like then go for it!

Kenworthington · 02/09/2020 11:52

JaXon is appalling. Jackson is ok

Melody is lovely, but with Belle- absolutely not

SmallestInTheClass · 02/09/2020 11:54

Melody and Belle are both lovely, but maybe a bit 'girly' with both together. I'm sorry but I really don't like Jaxon. Jackson is much better. Maybe it's me but it makes me think of Michael Jackson straight away (as does Jaxon), so depends if that bothers you.

Cheerfullygo4 · 02/09/2020 12:01

Jaxon is in the same vein as Jayden, Hayden, Kaiden. Not great. Samuel is lovely. Melody is lovely as is Belle but perhaps not together.

BiBabbles · 02/09/2020 12:12

If I met kids named Melody or Jaxon in person, I'd probably not think much of it, certainly couldn't hear the spelling.

Seeing the names written out, Melody Belle seems to me like a children's series or anime character, one that's very on the nose about names. If open to suggestions, Mirabelle may work well.

I have no strong feelings about Jaxon Samuel, though I imagine he'd be having his named misspelt and having to respell it out repeatedly even with its rising high popularity.

unicornpower · 02/09/2020 12:17

@sunlight81

LOVE LOVE LOVE Jaxon... we want Jaxon and Abel for my twins but like PP my DH doesn't like the spelling. I think it's quirky and a modern twist on an age old name. Go for it!!
Sons of Anarchy fan?
daisypond · 02/09/2020 12:27

Melody is fine. I’m not keen on Belle, but it’s OK. They do sound twee together but as long as you’re not saying them as one name, it’s fine.

Jaxon is bad. Even Jackson is not good. I can’t believe the poster who said it was an age-old name. It’s not. It’s surname. Samuel is nice.

TyrannyOfDistance · 02/09/2020 12:29

FWIW (and may not matter to you a jot 🤷🏼‍♀️), there is a champion racehorse in New Zealand called Melody Belle.

unicornpower · 02/09/2020 12:29

I like the name Jackson but not spelt Jaxon, personally it just reminds me of Sons of Anarchy as I'm sure alot of people want it shortened to 'Jax' like in the show, rather than 'Jack'. spelling it Jaxon makes more sense if you want that. A friend of mine went a step ahead and just called her son 'Jax'

chubbyhotchoc · 02/09/2020 12:29

I like Melody Belle. Not keen on the other. Wish my dh would agree to melody

Crankley · 02/09/2020 12:33

Melody Belle is achingly twee and Jaxon is ghastly. If I saw the latter, I would assume the parents were illiterate and didn't know how to spell Jackson.

PattyPan · 02/09/2020 12:34

I like Melody but not paired with Belle - I don’t like the repeated ‘el’ sound or the repeated musical theme. What about Melody Beatrice or Melody Bridget if you want a B name?
I am not a fan of surnames as first names so not a fan of Jackson, but I completely abhor it spelt Jaxon. It just reminds me of klaxon and no one will spell it right. Jack Samuel is nice though.

MiniCooperLover · 02/09/2020 18:51

Really dislike double barrelled girls names and Jaxon sounds faddish and looks misspelt

MikeUniformMike · 03/09/2020 07:10

If you like the el-el rhyming, how about Helena Belle, Helsbells for short.

Astronica · 03/09/2020 07:53

I'm afraid I agree with most other posters.

Melody is nice. Melody Ruth, Melody Georgia, Melody Kate would work well. Not keen on Belle, and certainly not with Melody - you need to be careful with the picture that 2 word names conjures up.

Jackson is fine, though overused. Just Jack is great (classic enough that popularity doesn't seem to matter). Jaxon loses all the charm of these. Samuel is good.

MichelleOR84 · 03/09/2020 13:22

I like the spelling Jackson better !! I really like this name !

Melody is beautiful and so is Belle but together it’s a bit too matchy however it’s not like a middle name gets used/said a lot so if you like it go for it . It’s special even if I think it’s a bit much !
