Please tell me what you think of the name Esther?

I'm not due for a few months so just getting ideas.

I really like it, husband is not sure but he doesn't dislike it, It's just not very common where we live.

Honest opinions please?

Pretty! Much nicer than all these cutesy names around at the moment such as Lily, Millie, Maisey, Tilly and so on.....

Estelle is also nice. And Eleanor.

Firebird83 · 28/08/2020 23:48

I really like it!

alexdgr8 · 29/08/2020 00:16

yes, it's a fine name.
the others sounds like nick-names.
a girl esp needs to be able to be taken seriously.
not just as some pretty little thing, like a kitten.
she might be a high court judge.

DramaAlpaca · 29/08/2020 00:17

Yes it's nice. A good, strong, feminine name that isn't in the least bit cutesy or frilly. Great choice.

Idontlikeyoghurt · 29/08/2020 00:21

@alexdgr8 I agree. Can't abide these cutesy type names (no offence to anyone who has children with these names) but they don't age well. I couldn't imagine a judge called Millie but that's just me. They are cute on small children but not as they reach adulthood. Esther is fab.

4kidmom · 29/08/2020 00:56

It’s a good strong name

TulipsAndLilacs · 29/08/2020 00:58

I really love it.

Aquamarine1029 · 29/08/2020 00:58

God no. Sorry.

alexdgr8 · 29/08/2020 01:02

it's the name of a queen, renowned for her beauty.
sounds good to me.
go for it.

JamieFrasersSwingingKilt · 29/08/2020 01:20

@alexdgr8

it's the name of a queen, renowned for her beauty. sounds good to me. go for it.
And her intelligence. She saved her people from yet another power-hungry anti-Semite. She's also one of the few women in the bible to have a book named for her. Go Esther!
Jellyeggs · 29/08/2020 01:28

I don’t particularly like it as a name but I’ve only ever met extremely cool Esthers.

ILoveStickers · 29/08/2020 06:52

I like it. I think the only one I know spells it Ester (she is Italian).

Prettybluepigeons · 29/08/2020 06:53

Rantzen

DoTheMaccaroni · 29/08/2020 08:08

Beautiful name 🥰 people often think I’ve said Esther when I say my daughters name. Doesn’t bother me though because it’s so pretty!

NeedToKnow101 · 29/08/2020 08:10

One of my favourite names. I had aunties called Esther, Na

NeedToKnow101 · 29/08/2020 08:11

Oops, Esther, Ali, and Nancy and I love all three names.

DappledThings · 29/08/2020 15:50

Love it. It was my first choice for DD but couldn't quite convince DH.

AdelaidePlace · 29/08/2020 15:54

Love it too and after recent watching of Unorthodox love the shortening to 'Esti'.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 29/08/2020 15:56

I liked the name so much that I gave it to my eldest DD.

It tends to be fairly popular when it comes up on MN naming threads. However, in RL when I would said her name there’d be a few seconds thought as people thought of a polite response, normally focussing on how unusual the name was Grin

I still love the name nearly 20 years on. And now DD is old enough not to care that she can’t buy a rather rubbish pen with her name on it, she loves it too.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 29/08/2020 15:57

That’s a few seconds pause, rather than a few seconds thought.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 29/08/2020 15:58

It's my daughters middle name, I love it. It would be her first name but sounded odd with our surname, to my eternal sadness!

Goodoldfashionedploverboy · 29/08/2020 15:58

Beautiful!!

KindKylie · 29/08/2020 16:00

I like it - it was on our list for dc3 (turned out to be a ds!) along with Etta/Ettie.

It has a similar feel to Naomi, Ruth, Jemima, Tabitha etc in that they're from the bible but not necessarily used by religious families imo.

micc · 29/08/2020 16:58

I have a cousin called Esther!
I love it :) really pretty, and not common but not unheard of

Lavenderblues · 29/08/2020 17:13

Great name - beautiful, well known but not popular/fashionable/overused!
