Mine is fairly common.

OP posts:

Both uncommon but becoming more common as they are discovered as we ahead of the curve 😁. Both names only ones at large primary and some comments on the names from teachers (along lines of ooh lovely never taught an x before) but notice the odd other one starting primary as my youngest leaves...

MsTSwift · 28/08/2020 05:53

Actually one teacher nicked dd2 name for her own baby which I guess is a compliment 😁

NatalieH2220 · 28/08/2020 05:57

Fairly common (in the top 100) although but yet to meet another in person with his name

Twizbe · 28/08/2020 05:59

One is a common traditional boys name. It's not in fashion at the moment though so isn't everywhere.

Other is quite common in Wales, not so in England

HappyPunky · 28/08/2020 06:02

DD's name is common enough to be able to buy personalised items from the racks in shops but we've only met one other with the same name since she's been born.

Mumofstanley · 28/08/2020 06:06

Just looked on the most common names for their birth year for our country and
DD 1 is number 5
DD 2 is number 25
DD 3 is number 5 .
Only dd2 has had classmates with the same name. One year she did interschool and her and the other three kids on the podium had the same name.

KitKatastrophe · 28/08/2020 06:13

My first daughters given name is not that common (top 200), but the diminutive she goes by has been in the top 20 for over a decade and for a while was top 10. It's one of the ones which people often cite when giving examples of popular names.

My second daughters name is rising in popularity in England and Wales but is not in the top 100 yet.

I didnt realise DD1s name was so popular, but I still would have chosen it because I love it

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 28/08/2020 06:14

In a population of 5.6million danes there are

494 boys/men with ds' name.
62 girls/women with dd's.

Ds is quite common in England. Dd has a classic but not very used name.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 28/08/2020 06:15

Both top 100. The teen's name was not that popular when I named her, gained huge popularity and is on the way out again. Younger child's name was more common and has stuck around a few years but isn't top 10.

I don't think either has a common name, where I live I have rarely meet others called that but both seem more popular nationally. My own name is very common and wanted to avoid that.

whiskeysourpuss · 28/08/2020 06:15

DD1 - common, was the number one girls name for about 10 years

DD2 - fairly common, usually floats around the top 20

DS - uncommon, there's only been him & one other born in Scotland in the past 20 years.

DoTheMaccaroni · 28/08/2020 06:21

There were only in total 9 born between 2017-2018 and 2 or less in 2019 as it wasn’t on the ONS list this year 🥳🥳🥳

trappedsincesundaymorn · 28/08/2020 06:22

When DD was born (20+ years ago), her name was rare as a first name, now it's more common. I like to think I set a trend. Grin

Wowcherarestalkingme · 28/08/2020 06:38

DS1 very common. Never knew anyone with it when we chose it, now top 5.
DS2 less so but still in top 100

timeforawine · 28/08/2020 06:41

Very uncommon, might not be another person with this name in the UK.
She has a Hawaiian name

LostInTheColonies · 28/08/2020 06:44

DD - not even in the top 100 when she was born; now just outside the top 30.
Have never met another her age though! And only a very small number overall, of very scattered ages.

Tlollj · 28/08/2020 06:44

Ds1. Uncommon
Dd1. Uncommon
Ds2. Number one in the recent list
Ds3. Uncommon
This has changed massively since they were born.

VirginiaWolverine · 28/08/2020 06:51

DD's is a classical name which is too unusual to show on the charts.

DS's is unusual, but more common. There are generally around 10-20 boys a year with his name.

Phillycheesesteak · 28/08/2020 06:51

Underused biblical classic. About 70 on the charts.

orangejuicer · 28/08/2020 06:52

Very common in the usual 'lists' but I've never known anyone with his name.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 28/08/2020 06:55

I've just Googled my own name and no babies in England or Wales were given my name last year. Its obviously due a revival 🤣

Xiaoxiong · 28/08/2020 06:57

Both my DSs have British saints names (not with weird spellings either), but only 18 babies with DS1's name and 12 with DS2's name were born last year. So I guess that makes them traditional but uncommon.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 28/08/2020 06:58

Both.
He has a really common given name.
But he goes by a really old fashioned nick name for it.

Heartlake · 28/08/2020 07:01

DD and DS were at #35 and #23 in the charts in the year of their birth respectively, which is just how we wanted it! (Didn't choose them for that reason). DH and I have well-used names that don't particularly point to one generation or another, and we have always been grateful for that!

NerrSnerr · 28/08/2020 07:02

Both of mine are around 100 on the baby names lists but I think one will become more popular soon as that generation of names is coming in. Both are well known, old fashioned names.

4kidmom · 28/08/2020 07:04

When I named my three boys their names were in the top 100, but not the top 10. I thought my daughter’s name was quite uncommon. It wasn’t even in the top 200. I was surprised that another student shares her name at school.
