Mine is fairly common.

Uncommon, never met another one (it was an aunt's name decades ago, she died young).

@FOKKYFC

There were three girls (total) given her name in the year she was born; either side of that it ranges from none to four, although there was a bit of a spike ten years ago (nine girls, I think) for reasons I can't fathom (no books or tv to the best of my knowledge). No one else in the UK has ever been given my name, as far as I can tell, although Google shows two or three of us worldwide over the past 30-40 years.
Ooh m intrigued

Both clssic names. Both have been in the Top 20 forever.

BackforGood · 28/08/2020 00:02

dc1 - very, very popular within his age group I can't think of anything he was part of when he wasn't one of at least 2, but often 3 with the same name....... classes, sports teams, cubs, drama, swimming lessons - everywhere he has been.

dcs 2 and 3 - neither are common for their peers. Neither had met another person in their age groups with their names until late teens (dc2) and end of junior school (dc3) (though know some adults with their names - they are both 'classic' names, just not used much in the years they were born.

3985th Smile I know several old ladies with the name though, it was top ten in the 1930s!

Mabel?
Allihearischasemarshallskye · 28/08/2020 00:10

Very uncommon.

detachablehoof · 28/08/2020 00:12

Mabel is 106th!

yahoosername · 28/08/2020 00:16

@mathanxiety 4 "off the charts uncommon" names? Really?

MrsAvocet · 28/08/2020 00:16

When we named our DD I had never met anyone with her name but it meant something to us. A few people told me it was old fashioned and she'd be teased for it. Hmm Within 5 or 6 years it was in the top 5. It is still quite popular, but not as much as it was. Her actual name isn't in the top 100 now, but a version with a different spelling is in the top 50 still.
Both my sons have classic names that I tend to think of as common, but actually they aren't at present. Neither of them are in the top 100 and nor are their middle names. I don't think I know anyone around their ages or younger with the same names but I am sure they will have been in the top 5 on many occasions in the past, and probably will be again.

Pieceofpurplesky · 28/08/2020 00:20

Not in the top 50 but in the top 75. Wasn't really popular when I names him but did have a rise due to a celeb!

africanantelope · 28/08/2020 00:28

All 3 uncommon. Especially when added with their middle names. People don't get it.. and then they get to know me and it all makes sense

sanityisamyth · 28/08/2020 00:29

Do you mean common or popular?

🙄
sorryforswearing · 28/08/2020 00:35

Uncommon when born but DC is in his early twenties and it’s becoming increasingly popular unfortunately. Not a lot you can do about that. I’ll be surprised if it becomes really common though.

caringcarer · 28/08/2020 02:57

I thought my youngest sons name was uncommon until a film star made it famous three years later. Now there are loads about.
My dd name fairly uncommon but I do know of one other 10 years younger than her.
My eldest son has a traditional name.

Shmithecat2 · 28/08/2020 03:01

It's in the 60s of the top 100.

Ploughingthrough · 28/08/2020 03:40

DD has a common name, DS not common. I picked them because I like them, I don't care if they're popular or not.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 28/08/2020 03:53

Both my boys are now adults.

DS1 has a very uncommon name, it's never been on the top100 since he was born and I've only once come across another one in real life.

DS2 has a name which is uncommon but which has sometimes made it into the top 100, although not in the year he was born and not recently either.

I have a name which was incredibly popular in the late 60s/early 70s and in secondary school there were 3 if us with that name in my class. I hated it which is why we went for more uncommon names for our DC.

When I was pregnant with ds2 one of my favourite names was Noah. My mother who was a primary school head at the time said that he would get teased because it was such an old fashioned name, so I ruled it out. 20 years later and it is one of the most popular boys names in the UK.

Soubriquet · 28/08/2020 03:57

No not really.

Saying that, dd went to one school for 3 years and never met another child with the same name.

Went to the local village school, and not only is there someone with the same name, but she’s in the same class!

Ds has the same name as my cousin, but we never see him. Not met another child with his name yet.

Both are not unknown, but obviously aren’t that popular

Quire · 28/08/2020 05:23

So uncommon it didn’t get an exact number In the stats for his birth year — it may have been just him. I think 12 babies were called it in 2018.

DerbyshireGirly · 28/08/2020 05:33

Very uncommon. Less than 20 born each year.

CarlottaValdez · 28/08/2020 05:41

Reasonably common I guess - bottom half of top 100, been going up a few places a year since I chose it 6 years ago. Haven’t met another child with his name yet.

Imissmoominmama · 28/08/2020 05:46

All three have shortened versions of classic names, but not hugely common.

Hellomoonstar · 28/08/2020 05:48

Ds- common
Ds2- common
Ds3- first name common second name uncommon. He has two names because I worried about him disliking his uncommon name.
