Mine is fairly common.

My DDs names were top 20 when they were born, both been top 10 for the past few years. Doesn't bother me or them. They've never had anyone in with the same name in their class. DD1 is the only one in her school and DD2 is one of two in the school. I think even common names now have a much lower frequency than when I was young as there seems a much wider range of names that people choose from.

KeeefBurtain · 28/08/2020 09:51

Dd1 her name is super common as in top 3. Wasn’t in 2003 when I had her.
Ds1 his name hovers around the 60s in the ons but was in the 300s when I had him in 2005.
Ds2 his is very uncommon but I’ve seen lots of people suggest it lately on here.
Dd2 also very uncommon, also suggested a lot lately, particularly on Scottish name threads. The shortening of her name is edging into the top 20 though.

pontiouspilates · 28/08/2020 09:54

One of each.

DemiFrancaise · 28/08/2020 09:57

DD - very uncommon. only 82 people born with her name in the same year.

DS - common. Ranked 64th most popular name in his year of birth.

Yellowcar2 · 28/08/2020 09:58

DS1 no longer top 100 but has been in the past. DD1 around top 20 to 30. DD2 never in top 100 but not weird if that makes sense.

GreenPlum · 28/08/2020 10:03

Just checked the Top 100 list. DD and DS both in the 30s.

Enko · 28/08/2020 10:05

Dd1 common just outside top 20
Dd2 very uncommon only 7 babies named this last year she is 20 and that is the highest I've seen it usually 3 or 4
Ds uncommon in the 1000s however very well known name bit of a marmite name i find i think there was 23 called his name last year
Dd3 uncommon but has steadily risen over the years now just inside top 200

17caterpillars1mouse · 28/08/2020 10:09

Uncommon though dd2's name is mentioned fairly often on here

40 oh dd2's name borm in 2019 in England and Wales statistics and 7 of dd1's name, yet I've met a same aged child with dd1's child but not dd2

17caterpillars1mouse · 28/08/2020 10:12

I think my dd2 may have the same name as your youngest. Does it begin with an E

17caterpillars1mouse · 28/08/2020 10:13

Sorry above message was to @KeeefBurtain

KeeefBurtain · 28/08/2020 10:22

@17caterpillars1mouse it does!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 28/08/2020 10:25

Dc1 uncommon (but is a short version of a relatively common name - think Liv / Olivia)

Dc2 uncommon (but coincidentally have an older relative with the same name)

Both are the only kids with their name in their primary.

WouldBeGood · 28/08/2020 10:26

Uncommon but well known.

turkeyboots · 28/08/2020 10:27

Uncommon DD, just in the top 500. Super Uncommon DS, only 9 others in the whole UK were registered with the same name that year.

EThreepwood · 28/08/2020 10:30

Both very uncommon although we found another child with DD2's name last month.

DD1: 21 called this in her birth year
DD2: 11 called this in her birth year

BikeRunSki · 28/08/2020 10:30

Both top 20, both have another child with their name in their class. Love it.

I grew up with an unusual name for my age, a very unusual place name middle name and a Gaelic surname, and hated it. My dc have Ben/Tom type names and a traditional English occupation surname.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 28/08/2020 10:31

Never seen DS's name in the top 100. There are none in his peer group or at school, and it never appears in those racks of pens with names on! It's never been fashionable but it's not a 'made up' name and not so uncommon that no one has ever heard of it.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 28/08/2020 10:33

3x uncommon (all outside the top 100 in their years of birth & have remained so)
2x common (in their years of birth 1 was in the top 10, 1 was in the top 50)
I have a common name, as does DH

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 28/08/2020 10:34

Mine are all heard of names. 2 uncommon though and one with an uncommon spelling

LilaButterfly · 28/08/2020 10:36

DC 1 is very common. Its top 5 in the country im originally from. I think if we were living there i would have chosen a different name. Here its a well known name, but not used as much.
DC 2 was very rare when we picked the name. I know of 3 near us that were born this year though.

thewhitechair · 28/08/2020 10:37

DC1 has a top 3 name for the year they were born, but funnily enough has been the only one in their year for both primary schools they’ve attended.

DC2 has a top 20 name

pooopypants · 28/08/2020 10:48

Uncommon in the UK but because they're Muslim names. DS - never met another. DD - she has a girl in her class with the same name. Teachers told me they've never heard the name before my DD started there.

YgritteSnow · 28/08/2020 10:50

They weren't common when we named them, ds was barely in the top 100 when we named him but has been in the top 10 for the past few years.

DD's is in the top 100 but only just, she was in the top 50 when we named her.

Both classic names. Both teenagers.

theruffles · 28/08/2020 11:15

DC1's name is uncommon but starting to be heard more. I think it's just moved into the top 100.

The names we're considering for DC2 go both ways - uncommon if it's a girl and fairly common if it's a boy.

emwithme · 28/08/2020 11:22

DD is top 30, regularly appears on the "Classic but not common" name threads. Easy to spell, lots of different shortening choices. From what some people say you'd think we'd bump into one every other step but haven't so far. Old ladies genuinely like it!
