Boys names - thoughts please

We're having a baby boy in a few weeks time - our first baby 🥰.

Naming him is proving a challenge and he's just known as Kevin for now. I feel it would be kind to not stick with Kevin, so please give me your thoughts on our potential names.

Freddie (short for Alfred)
Percy (family name, I love it and think it's due a come back!)
Beau
Rowan
Jesse

A mixed bunch - we have very different tastes so getting just a few has been a struggle!

Thanks

Oh and Rory !

Of those, I like Freddie and Jesse.
Not so keen on the others.

HanPanPeg · 23/08/2020 19:13

I like Percy and Jesse.

I like Rowan for a girl

BGirlBouillabaisse · 23/08/2020 19:13

DS1 is Alfred nn Freddie, he's 7. There aren't many Alfreds about but a fair few Freddies. His brother is Albert nn Bertie.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 23/08/2020 19:13

Freddie or Rory

Aquamarine1029 · 23/08/2020 19:13

I'm sorry, but Percy is horrible. It's a very weak name.

RosieJess91 · 23/08/2020 19:23

Rory is lovely. Alfred also good. Percy good if it's a family name, but as someone who loves Harry Potter, I can only think of the mean Weasley, but I highly doubt that's a common thought for anyone else! 🤦🏼‍♀️

hauntedvagina · 23/08/2020 19:27

Alfred is my favourite of these.

irisheyesaresmiling7 · 23/08/2020 19:31

I only like Freddie Blush but that's just me.
Percy makes me think of Percy the Park Keeper and the only Jesse's I know are all girls apart from the song Jesse James!

MikeUniformMike · 23/08/2020 19:36

Freddie (short for Alfred) - ok
Percy (family name, I love it and think it's due a come back!) - different
Beau - no
Rowan - will disappear in a class of Roman, Reuben, Rowan, Rory, Ralph, Rafe, Rohan, Ruan, Rupert, Rufus....
Rory - Wowy or Vovy. See Rowan.
Jesse - you big jessie. No

I'd go for Percy if I were you.

PlantPotting · 23/08/2020 20:08

Freddie (short for Alfred) - nice name. Fairly popular but it's a classic.
Percy - love it- it's already coming back if you look at the statistics. Still unusual of course but more people using it. Love love love.
Beau - nice a bit different.
Rowan - my baby daughters name. I am biased but prefer it for girl. I still like the name but regret using it as it's so similar to RoMan and that's the fastest rising boy name and they do get a bit muddled when there's a few Romans and Rowans at the baby groups. Both very trendy names which I hadn't realised when picking. Also have a think if you like the nickname Row or not as I don't really like it but people are already using it all the time by accident even when I ask them not to. You might like it though
Jesse - love this name and one I would consider using. Not too popular either, never met one.

PlantPotting · 23/08/2020 20:21

Rory is ok but I much prefer some of your other choices.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 23/08/2020 20:25

I love Alfred nn Freddie and Rory.

Beau is a bit of a risk: I’m sure he will be gorgeous but if he goes through any awkward or gangly phases then being literally named ‘handsome’ could sting a bit.

GroupSects · 23/08/2020 20:29

My friend’s DH is Beau and I really like it. Not common either.
Don’t like Percy, I just think penis. Percy is a name for a podgy boy with round glasses, like a young Benny Hill.
Rowan is nice too.

coronabeer23 · 23/08/2020 20:31

Rory is just about ok. The others are awful especially Percy and Alfred

FluffyEggsontoast · 23/08/2020 20:37

Freddie (short for Alfred) : 7/10 - nice. Freddie fairly common if that bothers you.
Percy : 10/10 nice name and definitely coming back. I think you'd regret not using this.
Beau : 6/10 - nice.
Rowan : 5/10 - Popular but feels even more popular than it actually is due to far too many Roman, Rowan, Rohan variations about recently. Nicer for a girl but still not keen. Dislike potentially inevitable nickname Row.
Jesse : 9/10 - nice
Rory : 5/10. Inoffensive, bit dull.

ellenpartridge · 23/08/2020 20:56

Rory

mintich · 23/08/2020 21:00

Rory by far!

DramaAlpaca · 23/08/2020 21:20

Anothe vote for Rory. It's the only one I like on your list.

Standrewsschool · 23/08/2020 21:29

Don’t like Beau. Others are fine.

Percival, nn Percy?

whatausername · 23/08/2020 21:41

Freddie (short for Alfred) - fine, very popular but that's not a reason to not use it
Percy - so wet it's almost cruel!
Beau - no. I find it silly if i'm honest.
Rowan - nice
Jesse - nay bc it is sometimes an insult but it is lovely otherwise
Rory - yay

Crimblecrumble1990 · 23/08/2020 22:07

We have the same taste in names OP. Rory, Freddie, Jesse were on my list too and we went with Beau.

I think names are so subjective, everyone has different tastes so I think it's really difficult asking for people's opinions. I know beau is a little controversial (thanks MIL in particular) but I couldn't care less, it suits him so much and luckily he is gorgeous (I might be biased!)

roarfeckingroarr · 23/08/2020 22:33

@Crimblecrumble1990 aw I'm sure he is gorgeous. May I ask what other names were on your list to steal them out of interest?

Percy is such a marmite option isn't it, I really love it. Thanks for opinions so far. We're not going to name baby for the first few days so we can work out which is right. Might stick with Kevin.

@roarfeckingroarr
I also loved Jude and Charlie :)
