We have just found out we are having a girl! Ds is Rupert so need a classic name to go with it for DD.
We liked the following
Nancy
Edith

Until we came a cross Mabel which feels lovely and like it fits more. What do you think of Mabel Grace?

I'm not sure Mabel fits with Rupert. Rupert is very upper class whereas Mabel I'd think of as being in the group an older lady at a playgroup I went to referred to as one of what she thought of as "servants names" that have had a resurgence in popularity such as Molly, Ruby, Daisy... (gets tin hat).

I adore Mabel Grace! Mabel was on my baby name list. ☺️
I also love,
Thea
Marnie
Martha
Winnie
Elsie

Luckily neither of my children are upper class or servants so that's alright! Thank you though, it's good to know other perceptions!

I like Mabel but Grace is so generic now so personally I wouldn’t use it, even as a middle name

What about Harriet to go with Rupert?

sweetnosugar · 22/08/2020 19:02

.. Maeve too! (Was looking at my phone notes for my old baby name list!)

Lelophants · 22/08/2020 19:02

I actually agree that Mabel is a bit of an old lady trend name. When I think of Rupert's sister I think Cordelia, Ottilie, Elizabeth type thing.
However it doesn't matter what I think and Mabel is a nice name! Grace goes more with Rupert I think.

Sisters of Ruperts that I know are Norah, Phoebe and Florence.

bossyboo · 22/08/2020 19:09

What about Robyn I think that goes with Rupert Smile

GroupSects · 22/08/2020 19:10

I’ve only known one Rupert in my life and he’d be a grown up now but his sister is Lucinda and I’ve always thought they went well together.

Pearsapiece · 22/08/2020 20:19

Thank you for these. Grace is a family name so that will be her middle name, no matter what. It follows a trend that we started with ds middle name too.
I like maeve but dh isn't keen. Same with phoebe and Nora was taken by a family member recently otherwise that was on iut list too.

I was going to say Evelyn or Edith and see you already like Edith so would say go with that.

Loopzy · 23/08/2020 01:49

Harriet
Eleanor
Jemima
Daphne

The two Ruperts I know have sisters named Alice, Rosa and Gabrielle. Whilst I think Mabel is fine with Rupert, I am less keen on it with Grace as the middle name. I think it's because Mabel doesn't seem long enough. How about...

Felicity
Harriet
Imogen
Madeleine
Naomi
Sophia

I like the earlier suggestion of Lucinda!

BergamotMouse · 24/08/2020 17:57

I see a few suggestions of Harriet. I loved the name Rupert but we didn't use it in the end. We have a Harriet (Hattie)

Wolfgirrl · 24/08/2020 18:02

Evelyn is a mans name to me. And I it grinds my gears when people pronounce it Ever-lyn 🤦‍♀️

And please not Ottilie, it is truly awful.

My vote would be Polly or Rosie/Rosalind/Rosanna etc. I just think Rosie and Rupert go well together!
