Argo

What are your thoughts on this name? I quite like vibe of the very popular Arlo but I think it's too common now

I do know it could be very much linked to the Argo film and the whole situation but do you think it's still usable or an absolute no?

AbsolutePleasure · 14/06/2020 23:22

Just don't give him a middle name beginning with S

Amicompletelyinsane · 14/06/2020 23:24

Makes me think of a car or pushchair type thing rather than a name

CatSmize · 14/06/2020 23:26

I love unusual names but it's a definite no from me. It makes me think of the Aga cooker.

Isawthathaggis · 14/06/2020 23:26

OP, I thought it read Agro and you were looking for a really aggressive name.

Rereading Argo will definitely be called Argos at some point in his school career. But if you can live with that it’s grand.

Who cares what other people think?

RedToothBrush · 14/06/2020 23:28

Hi little Argos.

Maybe you could get a sponsorship deal?

It sounds like a brand not a child's name.

MrsP2015 · 14/06/2020 23:30

Sorry looks like argos.

Any others you like?

puppymouse · 14/06/2020 23:32

"The laminated book of dreams."

BuffaloCauliflower · 14/06/2020 23:34

I love greek names and all my favourite boys names end in O, but even I’m not convinced I’m afraid. Plus it’s the name of a ship not even a prison.
How about Jago? Similar sound but more proper as a name, less common than Arlo (which is lovely but getting popular I agree)

BuffaloCauliflower · 14/06/2020 23:34

Not even a person* not prison

kenandbarbie · 14/06/2020 23:35

Yeah his friends will defo call him Argos.

bluebell34567 · 14/06/2020 23:38

agree kenandbarbie Grin Grin Grin

YouSayWhat · 14/06/2020 23:41

Is his first name Key’L?

StayAlert · 14/06/2020 23:42

He'll definitely be mistaken for an Arlo!

I think Argo sounds like a brand name, like for a car or something.

How about a different O name?

Otto
Jago
Leo
Inigo
Roscoe
Hugo
Enzo

spacelab · 14/06/2020 23:48

I quite like Jago but I went to school with one and it kind of ruined the name for me even if it was ages ago.

Other names I like

Thiago
Rocco
Nico
Franco
Jericho

Apparently I really like the names ending with -o but open to other suggestions. I am not based in the UK so wasn't aware of what Argos is but a quick google search definitely made me reconsider

OP posts:
CatSmize · 14/06/2020 23:50

Those other names are much nicer.

BackforGood · 14/06/2020 23:57

Jericho is a biblical town
Franco is a Spanish Dictator

I mean, I don't like any of them, but those two are worse than the others, to my ears.

Lynda07 · 14/06/2020 23:58

Why are you so obsessed with having 'o' at the end of a name?

Lynda07 · 14/06/2020 23:59

No - Argo makes me think of Argos.

LouLouLoo · 14/06/2020 23:59

Nico is okay.

spacelab · 15/06/2020 00:01

Lynda07 - I'm not 'obsessed', I just like them. A lot of boy names where I'm from, if not most end with an -o sound and I don't think it's really the end of the world now is it

OP posts:
StayAlert · 15/06/2020 00:01

I like Nico best from your list

PuntoEBasta · 15/06/2020 00:06

Hugo? Milo? Ivo?

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 15/06/2020 00:10

Theo, Leo, Jaco, Milo.

I like Nico out of your list too.

Argo isn't good though, Franco is kind of like Adolf I'm afraid.

Mumski45 · 15/06/2020 00:26

Sorry but it makes me think of the film Argo and then a line in the film which is Ar-go f**k yourself. I could never use it as a child's name.

Wheresthebiffer2 · 15/06/2020 00:48

Paulo
Rio
or consider Leon.
