Harper and/or Summer

Sister to Noah.
We still like Arabella but not sure if its too frilly.
We both also really like Harper and Summer. But have a few reservations.

Harper
Ive read comments on here saying it will date badly? There seems to be a feeling that its copying the Beckhams?

Summer
Could this be used for a girl even if she wasn't born in summer months?

Which would you pick? And why?

Thank you.

I much prefer Summer and think it can be used whatever time of year. It’s a feeling as well rather than just the season

TheOnetoWatch · 09/06/2020 13:16

Oh I like Arabella, it's really grown on me and I like the nn 'Ari' which I think is super cute.

I like both Harper and Summer. I wouldn't worry about dating, to me I don't think it will. I love Summer but I would only name my daughter in the summer months. I am sure others will disagree.

daisypond · 09/06/2020 13:20

Summer. I’m not wildly keen on it but it’s a million times better than Harper. Personally, if I had to pick, I’d go for Arabella, though it’s too frilly for me and doesn’t go with Noah.

BillyAndTheSillies · 09/06/2020 13:20

I know two Summer's, they're both really lovely little children and it always puts a smile on my face when I see them.

There as an influx of Harper's after the Beckham's called their daughter Harper, but it's a lovely name too.

IckleBear · 09/06/2020 13:24

I like Harper better than Summer.

I really like Summer and would have considered it but it doesn't go with our surname. Harper definitely makes me think of the Beckhams and so not keen

OnABeachSomewhere · 09/06/2020 13:37

I like Summer best, regardless of time of year. Harper is harder sounding and a surname.

campion · 09/06/2020 13:42

Arabella goes best with Noah.

Immigrantsong · 09/06/2020 13:43

Harper is a big no from me. Sounds surnamy and every Harper I know has been a cunt.

Windyatthebeach · 09/06/2020 13:47

Arabella reminds me of a horse's name. Summer - the one's I know are bloody awful!!
Harper is nice.
Noah and Everley?

SuperlativeScrubs · 09/06/2020 13:49

I have a Harper, however he is a boy. It's a lovely name Grin not biased at all...

Whatsyourflava · 09/06/2020 14:18

Love both Harper and Summer.
It doesn't matter what month Summer is born in. It's a mainstream name now no one will care. I love Harper. It may date but so could Summer. Is that really so bad anyway? Would being a 90 year old "Barbara" or "Doris" in 2020 be that bad?

LotusClover · 09/06/2020 14:19

Summer is lovely, and much nicer than Harper. I think it can be used any time of the year - I know one born in February and no one has ever questioned it.

Arabella is nice but quite frilly, and makes me think of the Arctic Monkeys song. It's quite different in style to Noah too.

Noah and Summer is perfect. Smile

ellabella18 · 09/06/2020 16:13

I love Arabella, could be Ari or Ella for short. I'm not a fan of Summer but know a Summer who had a brother called Noah (which I love btw), I think they go well together.
Harper has grown on me.

emmathedilemma · 09/06/2020 16:44

What about just Ella or Bella? I think Arabella is too much of a mouthful, especially with Noah.
I couldn't use Harper after the Beckhams and I really don't like Summer.

GRW · 09/06/2020 17:17

I am not keen on Arabella, as I see the word Arab when it's written down which she might get as a nickname. Harper and Summer are both nice.

DumpedByText · 09/06/2020 17:20

What about Haf which is Welsh for summer. 🌞

WSLTitanic1912 · 09/06/2020 17:48

@emmathedilemma Unfortunately neither Bella or Ella go with surname. Surname 4 letters and begins with B (think foot or rubber )

Surely Summer + your surname sounds like an event so I'm surprised you're considering it. Shame as It's by far the nicer name.

Although we have a December born Summer in our wider family. She's from Liverpool so it sounds like Zoomeh which takes the shine off a bit Smile

sweetnosugar · 09/06/2020 18:29

Harper is lovely! How with Harper.
As for names dating badly, that’s a matter of opinion.

sweetnosugar · 09/06/2020 18:30

*go

Aber9 · 09/06/2020 18:43

Harper is the only “surnamey” name I like and I love it. But thanks to the beckhams, it never made it onto my list. Still think it’s a lovely name, though.

I don’t like Summer at all.

helpmum2003 · 09/06/2020 18:57

Harper - I'm biased as don't like surnames as names but even so an absolute no for Beckham reasons.

Summer - OK. Not sure if not birn in summer.

Arabella - really pretty. If it's too frilly why not use Bella?

What about Millicent - nn Millie or Lily

I love Noah btw.

Spied · 09/06/2020 19:01

Guessing your surname as Ball I'd certainly not use Summer.
I don't like Harper and I don't think it goes with Ball.
Arabella is lovely but again, I'm sorry but I don't like it with Ball.
( Apologies if it's not BallBlush)
