Harper and/or Summer

Sister to Noah.
We still like Arabella but not sure if its too frilly.
We both also really like Harper and Summer. But have a few reservations.

Harper
Ive read comments on here saying it will date badly? There seems to be a feeling that its copying the Beckhams?

Summer
Could this be used for a girl even if she wasn't born in summer months?

Which would you pick? And why?

Thank you.

@Spied Unfortunately they are really not my style.

@Spied I don't think it hugely matters about the surname. I think Harper goes well with the surname actually..... 🤔

Alternative to Harper- Piper

Summer- Autumn/Winter (Spring doesn't work though 😆)

MikeUniformMike · 09/06/2020 19:12

None of the three names go well with the surname.

Harper is a surname so it sounds like a firm of bookkeepers or a plumbing product.

Arabella - begs for The as middle name.

Summer - isn't it called a Prom now?

Summer

DottieLottie1 · 09/06/2020 19:15

However, if your surname is as PP has mentioned 'Ball' you can't really use season/month/day names... Lifetime of ribbing I'm afraid.

WSLTitanic1912 · 09/06/2020 19:28

@DottieLottie1 I hadn't actually realised about Summer and surname. So I'm glad that was pointed out.
I personally don't see a concern with Harper Football or Arabella Football unless I'm missing something?

Arabella Ball
Are a Bell of (the) Ball
Bella Ball

Harper is too similar to Harpie for me.

emptyplinth · 09/06/2020 19:46

Arabella Ball is too much of a mouthful.
I'm not super keen on the name Harper but it goes better with your surname.

Your son's name is Noah? Same surname?

daisypond · 09/06/2020 19:53

Now I see your surname, I think you have to cross Summer off. Arabella is also too B and L heavy with it too. I think Harper isn’t great with it either- like a plumbing firm, as PP said.

WSLTitanic1912 · 09/06/2020 20:01

@emptyplinth Yes my son has the same surname.
I'm guessing you are going to make some remark about Noah with the surname. But we have never had an issue and funnily enough nobody has ever said anything in real life either. So don't even bother......

WSLTitanic1912 · 09/06/2020 20:02

@MikeUniformMike Wow.... you really have too much time on your hands and are clearly so pinickity. I know children where sounds are repeated in their first and last name. Its not an issue.

Actually the more I say Arabella Ball the nicer it sounds. Go for it.

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 09/06/2020 20:09

Ball is a great surname to choose names for!

Florence
Matilda
Lucy
Imogen
Felicity

All go nicely.

Ladsladslads · 09/06/2020 20:11

How about Arabel/Arabelle instead of arabella? Flows a bit better with the surname

WSLTitanic1912 · 09/06/2020 20:12

Our updated list consists of:
Harper, Chloe and newly added Elsie (not sure if its too old ladyish next to Noah?)

Not convinced by Arabella. The comment about "Arab" got me. Along with the length of it. Think I prefer names that are less likely to be shortened.

OP posts:
WSLTitanic1912 · 09/06/2020 20:14

@Chocolatedeficitdisorder Unfortunately can't use Felicity or Matilda.
Matilda was my all time favourite. So really disappointed I can't use. Did consider Tilly for a time but might still be too close.

Like Florence but would be named after a family member I despise.

MojoJojo71 · 09/06/2020 20:16

Chloe is lovely. Or how about Phoebe?

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 09/06/2020 20:16

Eloise
Louisa
Sophia
Jessica
Alexia

daisypond · 09/06/2020 20:21

Chloe, by far.

emptyplinth · 09/06/2020 21:25

Well I didn't "bother"... I'm not going to ridicule a child's name.
Hope you find a name you like.

MikeUniformMike · 09/06/2020 21:36

OP, you ask for opinions but you don't like them, and yes I do have time on my hands. As for being pernickety, it's a name someone is going to have to live with.

You were thinking of calling your baby Summer Ball.

DottieLottie1 · 09/06/2020 21:42

Just ideas, maybe not to your taste but I think they are in the same veins of Arabella,

Jemima
Alana
Allegra
Eliza

WSLTitanic1912 · 09/06/2020 21:49

@DottieLottie1 I like Eliza but already been used. I quite like Elsie and Ella. They are similar.

OP posts:
GiGi18 · 09/06/2020 22:26

Elise
Piper
Annabelle
Ottilie
Elodie

tilder · 09/06/2020 22:27

I love Matilda as well. Would Margot suit? Or Margaret? Maybe not the best if you don't like nicknames.

Am not a fan of Harper. Like previous posters, I think Arabella/Bella and Summer ard tricky with your surname.
