This is a preliminary list of names that I like before even showing it to DP as I would also like some suggestions from everyone on here. These aren't the only names I like but just some of my favourites

Harper
Ocean
Lilac
Astor
Scout
Blaze
Greer
Indigo
Bali
Fallon
Holland
Tatum
Ace
Brighton
Lumen
Teal
Halston
Collins
Gage - Biggest guilty pleasure ever I don't even know why

Really open to suggestions and everyone's comments on them

A gage is a plum, as in Greengage. Or it's a Male name.

Indigo - see the 90s PFBs being called Indigo children.

Astor. Look at Nancy Astor's actual political opinions. And she wasn't the first elected MP, anyhow.

The rest - meh. Ocean(e) already shows up in secondary.

The Brighton crusty assumptions are easy to make.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 24/05/2020 21:58

Oh, a Teal is a duck.

If you liked Duckface as a nickname....

WinWinnieTheWay · 24/05/2020 22:02

Fallon is the best of your list.

Twooter · 25/05/2020 00:30

Elf ran- why does Greer appear to you ? Genuinely interested as I really can’t see the appeal?

JasHarts · 25/05/2020 00:49

Harper- no
Ocean - nice
Lilac - nice
Astor- nice
Scout- nope!
Blaze- reminds me of weed. No.
Greer- feminist statement. No
Indigo- nice
Bali- no
Fallon - no
Holland- no
Tatum - no
Ace- boy’s name
Brighton- no
Lumen - sounds like skincare
Teal- no
Halston- horrific
Collins- horrid
Gage - horrendous

There’s a few places on your list. I have nothing against place names and actually my name is a place name. I get lovely comments on it but Brighton and Holland are taking it a bit far.

CuppaZa · 25/05/2020 00:55

I love these threads Smile

Harper - ok but reminds me of the Beckhams
Ocean - meh
Lilac - no, prefer Lyla
Astor - ok
Scout - no
Blaze - horse name
Greer - reminds me of cheese
Indigo - it’s a colour
Bali - okish
Fallon - political
Holland - a country that isn’t even nice sounding
Tatum - think of Channing
Ace - she will probably have the piss taken
Brighton - huh?
Lumen - why not Luna?
Teal - another colour
Halston - masculine sounding grand residence
Collin - I thought the baby in question was a girl?

Fishfingersandwichplease · 25/05/2020 01:23

The only half decent one would be Indigo if shortened to lndi. Half of those words you wouldn't know if it was Male or female which might not bother some people. All too new age for me l am afraid.

SE13Mummy · 25/05/2020 01:34

Harper- fine, fairly popular name
Lilac - makes a change from Lily
Scout - ok although I know a number of dogs with this name
Blaze - as for Scout
Indigo - quite like this
Tatum- fine

I'm not sure what else to suggest as your original list seems to be a fairly random collection of words. How about Luna, Primrose, Harley, Piper, Nova, Phoenix, Melody, Raven or Wren?

EvilEdna1 · 25/05/2020 01:37

Astor but only if you spell is Aster like the flower and not Astor like the anti-Semitic.

HappydaysArehere · 25/05/2020 02:30

Crikey!!!

Antipodeancousin · 25/05/2020 02:50

PLEASE don’t call your baby Bali. In Australia and NZ it is a cheap overseas holiday destination, it would be much like calling your baby Benidorm in the UK Grin

We have a very different taste in names so I won’t comment otherwise.

drigon · 25/05/2020 02:57

Most a bit too ' unusual ', but I like Indigo, Lilac, Harper and Ocean and Scout is ok.

IloveParmaViolets · 25/05/2020 05:52

She's got more front than Brighton springs to mind so it's a no from me. The same goes for the country name Holland. I don't like place names for humans, just a personal preference.

Fallon - 80's soap name
Is Gage even a name?

Tips to consider while choosing a name for your child:

  • your child has to go to school so consider bullying /ridicule potential
  • opening Bank accounts/passports, online forms etc consider how easy or difficult it would be
  • your child might grow up to hate their name if it's really ott & will change at earliest chance

You know what, I just don't think the OP is coming back... Hmm
