This is a preliminary list of names that I like before even showing it to DP as I would also like some suggestions from everyone on here. These aren't the only names I like but just some of my favourites

Harper
Ocean
Lilac
Astor
Scout
Blaze
Greer
Indigo
Bali
Fallon
Holland
Tatum
Ace
Brighton
Lumen
Teal
Halston
Collins
Gage - Biggest guilty pleasure ever I don't even know why

Really open to suggestions and everyone's comments on them

MeMeMeYou · 22/05/2020 22:25

I think we have different tastes so none really float my boat. Astor prob best for me.

BikeRunSki · 22/05/2020 22:27

Lumen is the SI unit for light intensity

BubblesBuddy · 22/05/2020 22:30

Blaze is usually spelt Blaise. Greer Garson was a 30s British actress so that’s ok. Tatum
O’Neal is a well known actress of course. Lilac is a flowering shrub but not great as a name.

As for the others, I think there would be laughter in the staffroom when DD goes to school. You could put several of these names together and have a real laugh. Brighton Ocean or Teal Ace!

Smellbellina · 22/05/2020 22:30

There was a thread on here recently with the name Lumen Hmm

tiptoe22 · 22/05/2020 22:30

I dislike most of them, immensely.

Apart from Harper Which I do like. The rest are just ridiculous. Imagine yourself with one of these names. Or try it out in real life - next time you're in Starbucks and they ask for your name use one of these and gauge how it feels. (Gauge 😜).

Did you go through a dictionary and pick out your favourite words?

BrandoraPaithwaite · 22/05/2020 22:33

All terrible. (You did ask us to judge. )
Harper is too trendy and will date terribly but is the only vaguely OK name on your list.

Smellbellina · 22/05/2020 22:33

I thought it was spelt Blaez, or is that just for boys?

Miriel · 22/05/2020 22:38

Lots of these are awful, sorry. Indigo, Harper and Ocean are the only ones that I think are usable for a girl, and they aren't really to my taste.

Would you really name a girl Brighton, Halston or Collins? If someone was introduced to me by one of these I'd assume it was their surname.

LotusClover · 22/05/2020 22:40

This is a joke, right? Surely no one is actually considering saddling a child with these names... Blush

Blursula · 22/05/2020 22:44

Harper and Scout I like. Lilac is okay. The rest I think are awful. I’m not against places as names but Brighton just doesn’t work...

Blursula · 22/05/2020 22:49

Some other suggestions based on your list:

Briar
Fenn
Magenta (I know one and it really suits her)
London (if you like a place name!)
Bluebell
Dusty
Raven
Aubrey
Autumn
Lux
Wren

Adelais · 22/05/2020 22:50

Indigo and Lilac are ok. I think most girls would hate to have those names - a lot of them are very masculine sounding. Think about your future child.

Carrie7469 · 22/05/2020 22:52

They're all dreadful. Really, really dreadful

Bubbletrouble43 · 22/05/2020 22:54

I'm afraid I only like Scout and Greer, but I like them quite a lot. I would whittle the list down by seeing which goes best with your surname.

Courtney10891 · 22/05/2020 22:54

Fallon is my sisters name, I thinks it lovely.

Don't listen to some of these comments. They have probably named their children something really original like Chloe or Sarah 😂x

Ilovecats14 · 22/05/2020 23:00

Wow. Is this a joke OP?

Ilovecats14 · 22/05/2020 23:01

Oooh are they all paint colours? 😂

Schrodingerspeanutbuttersandw · 22/05/2020 23:05

I don't think lumen means what you think it means...
"In biology, a lumen (plural lumina) is the inside space of a tubular structure, such as an artery or intestine. 1 It comes from Latin lumen, meaning 'an opening'. It can refer to: The interior of a vessel, such as the central space in an artery, vein or capillary through which blood flows."

Makes me think of bowels, needles, atherosclerosis, catheters, holes. Just no.

DramaAlpaca · 22/05/2020 23:06

I can usually find something nice to say about at least one name on a list, but this time I can't find anything nice to say about any of them at all.

Ikeameatballs · 22/05/2020 23:07

Some of them are just awful. Eg Lumen!!!

BUT, when pregnant I remember thinking I wanted to call dd Velvet.... thankfully she has a lovely, normal, name!!

I quite like Harper, Ocean and Scout (though that was a nickname in To Kill a Mockingbird). I think you could get away with Ace and Lilac.

What about:

Esther instead of Astor?
Gaia instead of Gage?

Other ideas:

Pearl
Emerald
Loveday
Joanie
Delilah
Willa
Athena
Ramona
Etta
Luxe
Noa
India
Zeta

LudaMusser · 22/05/2020 23:09

Are you American? They have ridiculous names like these

whatausername · 22/05/2020 23:14

Tatum = a guy's tate
Gage = gadge
Fallon = fall on her/him

Your kid is going to be asking for a fucking deed poll before they're 10.

whatausername · 22/05/2020 23:15

Uhmmm Harper and Ocean are okay I guess.

Rockhopper81 · 22/05/2020 23:18

But Scout in To Kill a Mockingbird - it's a nickname...her name is Jean Louise...so not really naming her after the character?

Totally missing the point of the thread, I know...

OffThePlanet · 22/05/2020 23:19

Collins, what sort of name is that for a girl. Your guilty pleasures shouldn’t mean that is a burden your child carries.

I intensely dislike my surname and was teased about it when growing up. I don’t like my given name but it’s an acceptable name I can live with it. There should be a law against stupid names. Sorry OP, write another list of real names or your child will have to bear the burden of not wanting to say their name.
