When I was at school everyone was Emma, Rachel, Rebecca and a few variants of Katy thrown in. Also quite a few Hollies which is odd. I was born in the 1990s.

OP posts:

HeyHeyWhatever · 22/05/2020 15:52

Emma and Gemma, with the middle name Louise

Chickenitalia · 22/05/2020 15:54

Born late 70s. Lots of Emma, Sarah, Claire, Chris, David, Matthew.

Unusual names from school - Aaron, Joel, Martha, Jeanette, Demelza. Don’t know any others even now.

My name has been mentioned as being common through the 80s here but I’m the only one I knew at school and still now amongst my friends.

Dd has the name that started this whole thread, and she is the only one in her school. Plenty of Lily, Olivia, Emily here. Boys seem to be Oscar, Henry, Max.

NaturalCleaningParticles · 22/05/2020 15:54

@123Dancewithme @Mumtothelittlefella @EineReiseDurchDieZeit @missyB1 @Notso @lorisparkle these replies on this page are all very interesting but could you all say the approx year you were born in as that makes the replies much more interesting and it's what OP asked 😃❤️

vampirethriller · 22/05/2020 15:54

Emma, Michelle/Michaela, Claire. 80s

NaturalCleaningParticles · 22/05/2020 15:54

Oh and James!

SallyOMalley · 22/05/2020 15:55

Joanne, Lisa, Karen, Claire, Julie, Helen, Sharon and Tracey (Born 1969/70). We must have had at least two of each in our class! (girls' school).

The more unusual names were: Jill, Valerie, Xanthe, Elisabeth (with an 's'), Penelope, Catherine, Hayley.

AliasGrape · 22/05/2020 15:56

Late 70s born - Emma, Rachel, Rebecca, Sarah, Vicky/ Vicki, Kelly

Boys - Matthew, Mark, Steve(n)

I find the Evie thing weird - I’m sure it is mega popular as everyone says but in 14 years teaching (Early Year’s mainly) I’ve come across one Evie. I know of one other Eve and one Eva - neither in my immediate circle nor living in my area, so to me it doesn’t seem a particularly popular name. For balance I’ve taught at least 8 Avas, more than 10 Lilies and one Olivia every year since I started teaching.

borntohula · 22/05/2020 15:56

I was born late 80s, I remember Leannes, Sarahs, Emmas and Jessicas.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 22/05/2020 15:57

Sarah. Lovely name, but so overused where I come from.

But also, Claire, Katie, Rebecca, Nicola, Victoria, Laura and Lisa.

For boys - James. I think the runners up were Thomas, Christopher, Mark, Paul and Matthew.

I was born in the early 80s.
