Emerald - classy or trashy?

Looking for opinions please, we have our boys name selected but struggling to agree on a girls.
DH has suggested Emerald...I actually quite like it and could imagine the nn Eme/Emmy. It would also go with our surname which is only 3 letters.
We know people called Emma and Emily so they're out of the question.
What is everyone's thoughts on it? I've never met one so don't know how it would be perceived.
Many thanks!

I quite like it actually

LittleCabbage · 21/05/2020 07:56

Sorry, my first thought was trashy. Like Destiny or Chardonnay.

Winkywoop · 21/05/2020 07:57

I quite like it...

If Ruby is an acceptable name then there's no reason why Emerald shouldn't be

chunkyrun · 21/05/2020 07:58

I just picture an ott dynasty character

whenwillthemadnessend · 21/05/2020 07:58

I worked with an emerald. She was Australian It suited her. Can be shortened to emmie. Em Dee and so on.

beautifulmonument · 21/05/2020 07:59

No I think it's an ugly name. Starts off ok but the "ruhld" sound is actually quite ugly for a girl's name

GigiLamour · 21/05/2020 07:59

I like it. It's bold but I think it's retro rather than trashy, like Pearl or Ruby.

Reminds me of the PG Wodehouse character Emerald Stoker.

raindrop84 · 21/05/2020 07:59

Sorry, it sounds trashy to me...

SocialifeofaHotWaterBottle · 21/05/2020 08:00

Trashy.

pictish · 21/05/2020 08:02

Too much of a mouthful either way imo.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 21/05/2020 08:03

I picture a stripper.

Amimissingsomethinghere · 21/05/2020 08:05

Sorry, trashy.

justanotherneighinparadise · 21/05/2020 08:07

I don’t mind it. It could be edgy but also could be trashy 😬

Ilovebanoffeepie · 21/05/2020 08:07

Not a fan over here! Sorry!

Kokeshi123 · 21/05/2020 08:08

I like it. Bold choice.

Rebelwithallthecause · 21/05/2020 08:11

I like it

It’s not trashy it’s not classy, but it’s lovely

ElectricTonight · 21/05/2020 08:11

I love it.

Rebelwithallthecause · 21/05/2020 08:12

Perfect for a May baby

Francina670 · 21/05/2020 08:12

Depends how posh you are.

Screenwriter and posh person Emerald Fennel, it’s fine. If you’re not in the league could veer into dangerous territory.

Pollyputthepizzaon · 21/05/2020 08:12

Trashy

LilyE1234 · 21/05/2020 08:13

The only Emerald I’ve ever met was super posh. She was very pretty and was known as Emmie

StormBaby · 21/05/2020 08:18

All the gemstone names scream trashy stripper I'm afraid. Jade, Ruby, Sapphire... Its only marginally better because its more unusual.

Honeybee85 · 21/05/2020 08:18

Not a fan of naming children after semi precious stones, sorry. Reminds me of names such as 'Diamond', 'Princess' or 'Chanella' or 'Diorette'. If you like something that sounds like Emmy or Emma, why not go for Emilie? French version of Emily so bit more usual. I also love Elodie which is along the same lines.

Honeybee85 · 21/05/2020 08:18

Bit more unusual sorry!

missmouse101 · 21/05/2020 08:22

I love it. Not trashy, quite elegant I say!
