Hello - please can you let me know which of these names would be your favourite for a baby girl? All obviously ‘I’s apart from Hannah (I also love Iona but DH vetoed!)

Thanks everyone

Isla, although I do like Iona!

  1. Isabel - beautiful name, of course very popular in recent years.
  1. Imogen - also a lovely classic names, slightly more unusual.
  1. Hannah. Pleasant enough. But if you'd said Anna it would be top of the list.
  1. Isla. Inoffensive but dull. Seems ubiquitous at the moment.
istheresomethingwrongwithme · 09/05/2020 06:23

Love Imogen, it was on our list if we had a girl but we had two little boys. A friend has just had a baby girl called Imogen and she is beautiful.

ElizabethMainwaring · 09/05/2020 06:30

My favourite is Imogen. When I was about 12 I wanted two daughters called Imogen and Ursula.
I like Hannah too. It's actually my name. When I was born (early 70s) it was really unusual and no-one knew how to spell it. When it became really popular in the late 80s I wished that id been called Anna instead.
Isobel is beautiful but I'd be put off by it being so popular.
Isla not bothered either way!

Danetobe · 09/05/2020 06:34

Isla. I didn't know it was particularly popular, but it wouldn't put me off if it is.

Nquartz · 09/05/2020 06:36

I love imogen, DD has 2 friends called Imogen so quite popular. Isabel is v popular & different spellings so potential for people spelling it the wrong way.

I like hannah, it's a classic which suits all ages. We

Isla - I've only come across one since having DD but always reminds me of Isla Fisher and I love her and loved Home & Away as a teen Grin

newtothis20 · 09/05/2020 06:39

Thanks early posters - Imogen is our front runner but I keep having last minute doubts (hopefully that’s normal). The other name I like is Nina which I also meant to include in the list above - do you prefer that?

All lovely names. I love Imogen the most. I know a lot of little Islas if that puts you off, it definitely seems to be having a moment.

TheCatsPjammas · 09/05/2020 07:08

Make sure you like the shortened versions of the names...

Han
Bel
Imo

Isla can’t be shortened so gets my vote. Although if it’s popular you run the risk of ‘Isla number’ three / Isla - surname initial when she’s at school!

Aria20 · 09/05/2020 07:16

Imogen definitely. (Immie or Gen)
Isla and Isobel/Isabelle are too popular.
Hannah is quite rare these days, it's inoffensive and suits all ages but personally I just find it plain. Prefer Anna as a pp said. Nina is ok but also bit plain.

Nonestopcaberet · 09/05/2020 07:19

All lovely names.
Imogen would be my number one. Followed by
Hannah (or Anna)
Nina
Isla

Isabel ( too many ways of spelling this...also ‘is a bell necessary on a bike’ always springs to mind.

FiveOutOfFiveGoldblums · 09/05/2020 07:20

I like all of them except Isabel which I would swap for Freya, Shona or Isabella.
Imogen is elegant. Hanna without an h was my second choice for DD.
Nina is timeless. Isla, Freya or Shona, I love but suspect the first two are ubiquitous.

Caramel78 · 09/05/2020 07:22

Hannah is the nicest. really lovely!

Heartlake · 09/05/2020 07:23

Please call her Nina! Not too mainstream but not too unusual either. Lovely name, all of the others are very popular around here, YY to what others have said about spellings, shortened versions etc.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 09/05/2020 07:24

I like them all, but Imogen is my favourite of yours, it used to be Isla, but its a little too popular now

blondie87 · 09/05/2020 07:25

Love Hannah or Imogen.

Peonyonpoint · 09/05/2020 07:29

Nina is gorgeous and both pretty but not too common at the moment!

OP I am not a proponent that EVERYONE has to have their own name but honestly, our school is a sea of Isla W, Isla B, Isabel/Isobel/Isabella P/C/T, in amongst a sea of Olivia which is in the same sort of ‘sound’ of names... Nina is so short and pretty and refreshing in comparison.

Disclaimer I love all the names above but there’s just SO MANY of them at our school!

IggyAce · 09/05/2020 07:29

Imogen, but I’m biased as that’s my dd name. Some nn that have developed for her from friends over the years, Immie, Idgy, Imz, and midge. Ive also heard Iggy and Mog.

wizzler · 09/05/2020 07:33

Hannah

mamablondie2 · 09/05/2020 08:14
  1. Isabel - Like! Prefer the Isobel spelling personally
  1. Imogen - I like it. More popular than you might think though if that bothers you.
  1. Hannah - Dull (sorry)
  1. Isla - Gorgeous. Very popular but that personally wouldn’t bother me.
babynamelover · 09/05/2020 08:28

Nina :)

FlatWhiteLover · 09/05/2020 08:33

I love Imogen. Nina is nice too.

Sorry but Hannah has been done to death for 20 odd years, I am born in the 90s and I knew heaps growing up.

Isla is a bit bland.

Isabel is ok.

Maybelatte · 09/05/2020 08:39

Hannah is very 90s and dated, I wouldn’t use it because I went to school with about 25 of them.

Isla is super popular right now but still quite pretty. I like Isobel but again, popular. Not a fan of Imogen, I think it sounds quite harsh.

peperethecat · 09/05/2020 09:22

Hannah or Isabel.

SE13Mummy · 09/05/2020 09:26

Imogen is my favourite, followed by Hannah. I know two (teenage) sisters with these names.
