Alternative to Matilda

summersun7 · 18/04/2020 12:20

Changed username to avoid outing myself....
A close friend used the name Matilda. I loved and adored this name. We don't leave nearby so children aren't going to go to school together, however they will be friends growing up. I am also close to their family, so I feel morally I cannot use. I'm quite sad as I loved the name.

So I've been considering Tilly/Tillie. But my name begins with a T and ends in I, so I'm worried it will be too rhymey. Tilly dates back to the early 1900's as a given name.

Any other alternatives you think I may like?
I literally look at every name and it doesn't feel the same as Matilda.

Thanks.

I see it's been suggested already but Tabitha came straight to mind.

OP, I appreciate how you feel but I really encourage you to just use the name Matilda. Friends come and go. It might not seem like this now because you have a close relationship with your friend, but you don't know how long the relationship will last for. Whereas, your daughter will have her name forever. You say that you haven't found a name that you love as much as Matilda...so use it. Matilda is a popular name and your friend's DD will meet countless other Matildas.

buckleten · 18/04/2020 12:45

I was going to say Tabitha too! Also Cassandra, Amelie, Saskia, Alexandra, Jemima, Talia, Natalie, Georgie/Georgia

I agree with @WendyDarling888

If you really love it, use it.

You don't want to spend the next however long regretting it then perhaps losing touch anyway?

Whatsyourflava · 18/04/2020 12:51

I strongly encourage you to stick with Matilda

If not

Thank you all.
I do see where your coming from with using it anyway.
I would still like to use as a middle name.
I really liking Martha and Jemima from your suggestions so far. Thank you. Xx

In your shoes I'd defo use the name you love.

If not, got to be Martha. Very similar somehow (and even nicer!)

@shirleyschmidt
