Those names you wouldn't use...

...but really want to!

I was joking to a friend I might use the names Raisin and Wooster. Those are obviously total joke names but it made me wonder something. What names do you secretly like but don't have a thick enough skin to use or don't wish to 'inflict" it on a child? All subjective of course.

Mine:
Hortensia (love this!)
Augustus
Lucretia
Lavinia
Antigone
Amadeus
Wulfric
Claus (maybe if I move i could use this lol)
Hedwig
Virginia (the whole virginity as a virtue thing is ghastly)
Bláithín (I got told this is old-fashioned and I am distinctly un-Irish)

I wanted to call DD Bellatrix. DH was having none of it.

Orphlids · 13/04/2020 14:08

Ooh, I really like Lavinia! And Antigone. Your list is pretty exciting. I also have several names I really like but for whatever reason wouldn’t use. Cadence - I love it, but am lead to believe it is... er... rather dreadful? Also Uther Pendragon - wow, what a name!

Bouncingbelle · 13/04/2020 14:14

Boys-
Lyric
Hamilton
Kelly (I knew a guy called this and he was soooooo handsome)

Girls:
Gypsy
Tuesday
Thursday
Virginia
Charity

whatausername · 13/04/2020 14:15

Oooh Uther Pendragon! Pendragon alone is a fabulous name!

Controversially (now I'm not a believer so this doesn't make me squirm) but I quite like the sound of the name Judas. However, the associations are far too strong and in many countries it is a byword for traitors so I would expect any child to disown me should I give them the name 😂

I love Lucifer, I wanted it for DS but DH vetoed it ( probably a good idea)

Orphlids · 13/04/2020 14:19

I am totally going to pick my next baby’s name from this thread!

whatausername · 13/04/2020 14:23

@Orphlids you must tell us when you do - even if it's 5 years from now!

Portia
Pandora
Bianca

Romeo

Huckleberry and Gulliver for boys. Zelda and Minerva for girls.
This time around I’m keeping my name choices from my family! Blush

Orphlids · 13/04/2020 14:26

Also love Gertrude, Pebbles, Hero, Ragnar. I love Judah too, as has already been mentioned.

Orphlids · 13/04/2020 14:27

@whatausername, ha ha, I’m due in September, so not long to wait! This is my last baby, so might as well push the boat out and choose something totally bonkers!

IggyAce · 13/04/2020 14:28

I have a Thurza Lavinia in our family tree.
I wasn’t brave enough to use Balthazar.

UncleHerbie · 13/04/2020 14:32

Augustus / Gus
Clement / Clem
Agnes /Aggie
Olive / Livy

... my grandparents' names

Flixsfoilball · 13/04/2020 14:34

There are lots I wouldn't use but the two absolute no's for me are:
Ralph (thanks to Judy Blume)
Caleb (immediately makes me think of a serial killer)

Spied · 13/04/2020 14:35

Lolita
Dakota

Sonny

Flixsfoilball · 13/04/2020 14:35

Ah missed the 'really want to' but 🤦‍♀️

Flixsfoilball · 13/04/2020 14:35

*bit! (And I haven't even had any wine!!)

BoswellsBollocks · 13/04/2020 14:36

I wanted Peppa for a girl.

And Deacon was a boys’ name I considered but wasn’t brave enough to use.

GloriaMaximus · 13/04/2020 14:37

I'm pregnant and I need a boys name, so please keep them coming!!!!

erised · 13/04/2020 14:37

Raven
Persephone
Wednesday
Mavis
Zelda

Lucian
Atticus
Blaze

Alsohuman · 13/04/2020 14:39

Those Shakespearean names are pretty mainstream. The only one I’ve never met personally is a Romeo.

DuckonaBike · 13/04/2020 14:39

Hieronymus
Ludwig
Isaiah

Luckily I've just got girls so I couldn't be tempted.

DuckonaBike · 13/04/2020 14:41

erised those are great names (apart from Wednesday, which is a bad name for a person though fine for a day of the week). I used to have a bike called Mavis.
