Hi, what do you think of the name Floris? It’s a very common name in the Netherlands, but we are now living for at least a few years in America. Thanks!

It sounds like a lovely name for a girl

LittleRa · 08/04/2020 20:55

How about Florian?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 08/04/2020 20:55

Not good.

Wendy8484 · 08/04/2020 20:57

Thanks for the suggestion .. but we don’t like it that much.

It’s very much a girls name in my opinion.

In the UK Flor... would make people think of floral so a girls name but in the US, they are more open minded about names and there's a much bigger variety. It looks easy enough for an English speaker to pronounce

Florian is an exception and a boys name here.

SeigneurLapindeGrantham · 08/04/2020 21:01

Please don't call him that. How about Finn or Gabriel?

Wannabangbang · 08/04/2020 21:02

Definitely no, sorry!

Aquamarine1029 · 08/04/2020 21:02

Sorry, no. I really don't like it.

SirVixofVixHall · 08/04/2020 21:03

I like the sound of it but in the UK, and possibly the US too, it is a very well known perfume brand, which might be a problem.

SeigneurLapindeGrantham · 08/04/2020 21:04

Jolyon is lovely also and Jolly as a nicknmame

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 08/04/2020 21:08

I’d go Florian rather than Floris.

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 08/04/2020 21:10

Not keen sorry

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 08/04/2020 21:10

It's a bit Harry pottery for me

StatementKnickers · 08/04/2020 21:10

Terrible

BikeRunSki · 08/04/2020 21:12

Florid is a very fancy perfumier, but I also like it as a name. Although I’m English, i lived in several countries (including the Netherlands) as a child and went to international schools, and I know of it as a male name. It doesn’t sound too female to me, maybe because it doesn’t end in “a”.

BikeRunSki · 08/04/2020 21:13

Sorry!! Previous post should say “Floris is a fancy perfumier”.

YahBasic · 08/04/2020 21:14

What about Loris?

I know a little boy called Loris, named after the footballer. His parents are European and works across a number of languages.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 08/04/2020 21:14

I love it. It’s the character Rutger Hauer played in a TV show and Rutger was/is my favourite actor ever 😍

MikeUniformMike · 08/04/2020 21:15

Florid Grin
He will also get Florist.

I wouldn't use it.

Waitingforadulthood · 08/04/2020 21:16

If floris is a name, it's a girls name. Either way it's not nice in my opinion.

How is it pronounced in your mind? To me it's floor riz. Perhaps if it's pronounced differently it'll be better.

What could his friends call him?- flo? flor? Rizzo?

carnivalisover · 08/04/2020 21:18

Flo or Doris nicknamed

stopandListen · 08/04/2020 21:20

Awful, makes me think of dental floss 🤣

Orphlids · 08/04/2020 21:23

I really like it.

daisypond · 08/04/2020 21:26

I like it but I know it as a Dutch male name. But maybe not so useable in the UK.
