Hi, what do you think of the name Floris? It’s a very common name in the Netherlands, but we are now living for at least a few years in America. Thanks!

Slow Loris.

Floris is a scent so no.

Morris

Sounds like a disinfectant cleaner

Wendy8484 · 08/04/2020 21:45

Thank you all. We will choose another name :-)

We have a Florian and love the name. Could you go for that?

Am I right that too is a Dutch name?

FamilyOfAliens · 08/04/2020 21:48

Thank you all. We will choose another name :-)

OP, you’re a legend Grin

babynamelover · 08/04/2020 21:52

Sounds more feminine than male to me but what about Boris or Floyd 😃

LesLavandes · 08/04/2020 22:26

No

Solasum · 08/04/2020 22:27

Joris as an alternative?

whywhywhy6 · 08/04/2020 22:32

No

bitheby · 08/04/2020 22:32

I really like it. And some of the posts are so rude. It's common in the Netherlands. That doesn't make it a girls' name because it sounds like an English word. It's a name in its own right.

LetItGoHome · 08/04/2020 22:37

I like it a lot. Use it XX

VenusClapTrap · 09/04/2020 08:25

I like it a lot.

toastofthetown · 09/04/2020 09:10

Going against the grain, I love Floris. Floris has always sounded masculine to me and I don’t have any connection to the Netherlands.

bitheby · 09/04/2020 13:01

Just heard Professor Karol Sikora on Radio 2. That's Karol. Not a girl.

Umnoway · 09/04/2020 14:27

Just makes me think of a florist, not keen.

Jossina · 09/04/2020 15:47

Screw those people who say it's a girls name. I love the tv show! I like it and say your son will be fine with it.

Skittlesss · 09/04/2020 19:39

What about Fleance?

RuthW · 09/04/2020 21:50

I know a girl named Floris.

Viviennemary · 09/04/2020 22:03

It's dreadful. But in another culture fine.

ilikebigbuttsandicannotlie · 09/04/2020 23:44

Floris?? Really?? Hmm

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 10/04/2020 08:34

Why do people get so turned off and “disgusted” by names from other countries?

lunar1 · 10/04/2020 09:08

I think it would be fine if you were staying in the Netherlands, but growing up is hard and children are cruel. I'd pick something that reflects your origins but won't cause your child unnecessary difficulty where he will grow up. I did similar with my children and we are a mixed family.

maddy68 · 10/04/2020 09:10

If you want to subject him to a life time of bullying. Go for it ...sorry I'm a jaded teacher

Womanlywiles · 10/04/2020 09:11

Expect him to be beaten up regularly.

Crookshanksthecat · 10/04/2020 09:12

Not in UK he would be hideously bullied, sad but true.
