Both of mine have names in the top 20-30 and have always been the only ones in their class/baby group so far, though we do know (or know of) a small number of others.

Multiples in DS’s circles include Theo, Louie (yes, rather than Louis), Oscar, Hugo and Charlie.

It really depends on the area. For example I’m raising my eyebrows at the suggestions that Oscar, Henry and Arlo are unusual as they all seem very common among primary school and younger boys around here.

@Lordfrontpaw there are 2 Alan’s in one year group at my ds’s school. But I did a double take when I first heard it.

Every parent wants an ‘unusual’ name and therefore as a result you get a class full of kids whose parents so proudly picked a ‘unique’ name, horrified that there are 3 other little tarquin’s in their PFB’s class. Pick a name you love. My ds has a top 10 name and is the only one in his (large) year and there is only one other in the school. We very nearly opted for a much more unusual name that we loved and if we’d gone for that one he would have been one of 4 in his year.

These are very popular IME of primary schools 2013-present.

All 3 of mine have top 10 names and they are all the only one in their class. One of them does have 2 Quinn’s in their class though .

Whatsyourflava · 05/03/2020 20:27

Just avoid the top 250 names

And def avoid the current fastest rising names within top 100 itself (Hunter, Roman, Ezra and Grayson) and they are all exploding. Best to pick a name on a downward trajectory if you’re worried about popularity

Names like Laurence and Christopher are pretty unusual

Whatsyourflava · 05/03/2020 20:28
  • as they are all exploding

Depends where you live. Plenty of Anguses round here( Angi?) along with Euan, Connor, Stuart, Jamie, Calum etc.

DS was the only Joseph in his primary school. His friend Guy was the only Guy in the entire secondary school.

Pick something which lots of 40ish year olds are called.
