Thoughts on Bo for a girl

As the title says quite like the simplicity of the name but not sure everyone will share the love. What do you think?

I know a Bo and she is lovely so automatically like the name. However her real name is Elizabeth and Bo was a nickname she had as a young child and it stuck.

mintich · 29/02/2020 10:15

I know 2 Bo's but they are both Bozena

SherryPort18 · 29/02/2020 10:35

I have heard of a little girl called Bowie recently which could be shortened to Bo.

Bo on it's own seems unfinished or makes me think of a strong Swedish man. Bo Derek is not the best example of the name as it is not her given name just something her husband thought would be catchier than Mary.

Beau is gorgeous but on a boy. Anybody with a couple of words of the French language would roll their eyes.

MonsteraDeliciosa · 29/02/2020 12:09

No, it’s awful. It’s not just that some will pick up on the BO (body odour) thing themselves; it’s also that when she’s asked to spell it (because some people seem to think that Beau is a girls name 🤔) she’ll have to actually say “B O” .

Actually, I remember this from a Carry on Film “the names Bo... BO!” a running joke throughout.

Londonborncatty · 29/02/2020 12:12

Love the sound but unfortunately body odour would put me off. You simply cannot get away with the fact it will read as B.O to lots of people.

Londonborncatty · 29/02/2020 12:13

Oh monster has a good point. She will actually be having to say B O when spelling it.

Ellmau · 29/02/2020 12:14

Sorry, but I hate it.

I feel really sad about the attitude on here I know a Bo and she is not in any bullied in school!! And I know this for a fact!! Her name really suits her...I’m in Ireland.

Notso · 29/02/2020 12:32

DH wanted Bo for our DD but it doesn't go well with our surname. I have Swedish ancestors and there was a Bo in our family.

elc19 · 29/02/2020 12:42

I love it!

Thefaceofboe · 29/02/2020 13:55

What about ‘Boe’? My female cat is Boe, hence my username!

Poppydaisies · 29/02/2020 14:32

What does the e add? It would just be pronounced Bo-eh in some languages!

MikeUniformMike · 29/02/2020 15:22

A No from me. Might be ok as a nn.

Thefaceofboe · 29/02/2020 17:27

@Poppydaisies no it really wouldn’t. Is toe pronounced to-eh? My point of adding the e is that it wouldn’t be spelt like B.O Confused

Thisismytimetoshine · 29/02/2020 18:10

If I saw Boe written down I’d have to check the pronunciation. I wouldn’t immediately think Bo at all. Plus, it actually looks worse, not better.

PolloDePrimavera · 29/02/2020 18:11

Not RTFT but Bo is lovely, Beau is the masculine form of beautiful/ handsome in French.

JasonBrun · 29/02/2020 18:12

Is it after her dad?

Happyandglorious · 29/02/2020 22:40

I love it. Suprised so many don't on this thread.
Short, sweet but not twee. Striking but not too out there.
I think it's nice

Lonelycrab · 29/02/2020 22:45

Bo?

No

AuntieStella · 29/02/2020 22:46

Bo is a boy's name in Scandinavia

I'd find it odd on a girl (especially non-Scandi)

BobbyBlueCat · 29/02/2020 22:48

It's hideous.

It just makes me think of a chav that couldn't spell the proper name correctly (which is bad enough)

Use it as a nickname if you must.

AuntieStella · 29/02/2020 22:48

How about Bodil - if you want a similar girls Scandi name?

Rachel246 · 01/03/2020 11:10

I'm not keen on Bo but Boe is awful.

GattinaGattona · 01/03/2020 20:32

I like bow 🎀 maybe short for rainbow but that’s a bit out there...
