Thoughts on Bo for a girl

As the title says quite like the simplicity of the name but not sure everyone will share the love. What do you think?

I think it is cool but would probably use it as a nn.

FeeFee832 · 29/02/2020 01:15

Beau - YES

BO... stinky

OnABeachSomewhere · 29/02/2020 01:53

Peep

Poorolddaddypig · 29/02/2020 05:47

I think it’s cute but not spelt ‘bo’ as that just makes me think ‘B.O’

Poorolddaddypig · 29/02/2020 05:47

Agree Beau is nice though!

Bezalelle · 29/02/2020 05:50

Ulrika Jonson.

KatherineJaneway · 29/02/2020 06:23

I like the name Bo but agree that some could make it like BO. Beau would be better

Abitofanexpert · 29/02/2020 06:38

I don't like the way Bo looks or sounds. Too short and unfinished sounding and it's just an ugly sound. Really dislike Beau for a boy as well.

I once heard about a little girl with a cousin Beau. When asked what Beau's new baby sister should be called, she thought for a while and carefully replied

'hair band'

I like it but not spelt that way

Beaux is the best way 😍

daisypond · 29/02/2020 06:53

You cannot use the masculine word Beau for a girl, and definitely not Beaux - which is both masculine and plural.

HeronLanyon · 29/02/2020 06:56

Derek!
I actually like it as a nickname but perhaps not as the birth certificate name. I’d give a bit of flexibility to your child re this as she gets older.
Bonny ? Bonnie ? I have an older relative christened this and always liked it.

happycamper11 · 29/02/2020 08:34

My daughters best friend is Bo. It suits her massively and she's never had an issue with it at school etc.

BikeRunSki · 29/02/2020 08:55

Beaux
This means “several handsome men” in French though. I’ve got nothing against names that are words, but this seems a little inappropriate.

SoupDragon · 29/02/2020 09:02

I read the thread title as BO so I'm not a fan.

TheVanguardSix · 29/02/2020 09:08

I love it. Bo Derek! I wanted to look like her when I was a girl and at 47, I still want to look like her.

Beau is the masculine for Belle, so definitely stick with Bo.

carlyclock · 29/02/2020 09:24

And for the posters mentioning Ulrika Jonsson as an example, she named her daughter Bo after her FATHER. A man. So not a good example at all. No different to calling your DD Dave or Bob.

carlyclock · 29/02/2020 09:25

Beaux is the best way 😍

Confused it's really not

LittleBearPad · 29/02/2020 09:26

Beaux

🤮

Lazydaisydaydream · 29/02/2020 09:28

What about Bodie as the name and Bo as the nickname? Really don't like Bo on its own.

Aethelthryth · 29/02/2020 09:30

As others have said, Beau is a masculine French adjective and is, therefore, absurd for a girl. It would also set the child up somewhat: what if she is very plain?

Bo is a cute nickname for a child but would not help her to be taken seriously as an adult.

Choose a proper name

SoupDragon · 29/02/2020 09:55

Bo Derek was actually called Mary Cathleen Collins

TheVanguardSix · 29/02/2020 09:59

Bo Derek was actually called Mary Cathleen Collins

We know this! But her stage name defined her. As did Tuesday Weld's, for example. It became her name, Bo did.

Lavenderblues · 29/02/2020 10:02

Bo works well for a girl! As does Belle.

But Beau is the masculine form!

Lavenderblues · 29/02/2020 10:03

And Beaux is the plural masculine form!

SoupDragon · 29/02/2020 10:08

It became her name

But she didn't have to grow up with it.
