Is this too much

After further debate we have finally decided on a name for DD2 due in in March.

Darcey.....DH would like to call her Darcey-Rose which is lovely but we had already decided on the middle name Jane after MIL. Her name wasn't due to have a hyphen as tbh I dont think people use them that much, they just use the 1st part.

I have suggested Darcey-Jane but DH likes Rose.

So do you think Darcey-Rose Jane Surname is too much?

I don't think it's too much, but I do think people will just call her Darcey. It's lovely either way

Soubriquet · 26/02/2020 13:12

No. If you like it go for it

My cousin has

First name, middle name middle name, double barrel last name!

SheWolfofFrance · 26/02/2020 13:13

I'd personally lose the hyphen and have 2 middle names. Darcey-rose is quite a mouthful. Very pretty tho

csmw · 26/02/2020 13:18

@Jessie9323 That's what I think my niece is double barrelled and we only ever use the 1st part as her mum does.

@Soubriquet I have 2 middle names too, was quite a mouthful at my wedding especially since DH has none

@SheWolfofFrance That was much concern it's such a mouthful.

The weird thing DD1 is called Emilia her middle name is Grace but everyone called her Emilia Grace like her name is hyphenated when it's not 🤷🏽‍♀️

My son has 2 middle names, a grandfather from either side when our daughter comes I think she will just have 1.

Whatsyourflava · 26/02/2020 13:59

Why have a hyphenated name? I’d just stick with Darcey Rose Jane Surname

(No hyphen)

Modestandatinybitsexy · 26/02/2020 15:07

Why don't you use Darcey Rose Jane Surname and people can call her Darcey Rose if they want to?

Then it would be like how they use your eldest's middle name but she wouldn't have any issues if she wants to drop it from official documents.

My friend was Lisa-Marie but dropped the Marie and has issues with banks vs passport/birth certificates etc.

Bezalelle · 26/02/2020 15:48

Just call her Darcey Jane. Rose is a space-filler name.

Bloomburger · 26/02/2020 15:50

I'm in the camp of hating hyphenated names. Can't you just give her 2 middle names or dispense with Rose altogether.

strawberry2017 · 26/02/2020 16:04

If you lose the hyphen i think it works, if I'm honest hyphenated names always seem a little chavy to me.

IslayBrigid · 26/02/2020 17:20

Also not a fan of hyphenated first names. It is very odd imo and takes away from the elegance of a name. I see the point with last names but also dont like the hyphen there really. I like Darcy Rose Jane - two middle names is grand! I personally have 3 middle names, and will be giving the baby currently growing in my belly 2 middle names. would do 3 but we will be using both DP and my last names (without a hyphen... doing what the Spanish do!)... so yeah. Had to draw the line somewhere haha.

csmw · 26/02/2020 17:27

Thanks all I'm not overly keen on the hyphen, its DH choice 🙈. I said get could pick this time and we have had to change once as everyone hated his first choice which was Aubrey Jane. What am I going to do Haha

DoctorBambino · 26/02/2020 18:20

Hmm I prefer Aubrey Jane tbh Grin

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 26/02/2020 18:21

It’s fine.

Poorolddaddypig · 26/02/2020 18:29

I really like Darcey Rose and Darcey Rose Jane but I HATE either with the hyphen! Sorry OP - I think hyphens really cheapen a lovely name.

csmw · 26/02/2020 18:49

@DoctorBambino don't, can't go through that debate with him again 🤣🤣

I wonder if when we go to register her, he will notice if I just 'accidentally' leave the hyphen out 🙈

I have an Aubrey 💖
Her nickname is strawberry 🤣 courtesy of my niece

emmathedilemma · 26/02/2020 20:06

What about Darcey Rose-Jane ;)
Seriously though, either or both middle names but please not the hyphen!!

canithrottlesomeppl · 26/02/2020 20:12

My cousin has a hyphenated first name and she hates it. Only gets called by the first part of it.

emilybrontescorsett · 27/02/2020 00:12

I wouldn't use the hyphen.
If you do then all official documents will be in the full hyphenated name.
It is different from having a middle name, you may as well be called Darceyrose as that will be her name if you use the hyphen.

porple · 27/02/2020 00:20

i wouldn’t use a hyphen just go with Darcey Rose Jane

happymummy12345 · 27/02/2020 00:43

Here we go again with the hatred for hyphenated first names. So so rude all of you. Do you not stop to think how those of us with such names will feel about your rude comments?
FWIW I have a hyphenated first name that I do use all the time, no middle name. I do think hyphenated first name plus middle name is too much though.

OnNaturesCourse · 27/02/2020 00:58

OP... Would you intend to call her Darcey-Rose, or just Darcy?

If its Darcy-Rose then go with Darcy-Rose Jane.

Its just Darcy then go with Darcy Rose Jane.

Either way definitely keep both middle names, it's a lovely name.

My DD has two middle names and I love the flow of her full name.

MrsEricBana · 27/02/2020 01:02

All nice but I agree no hyphen.
