Lola

OH has thrown Lola into the mix and I can’t decide if I like it or not. I don’t hate it, our DD1 has a short two-syllable name and generally I prefer those over longer/fussier names.

Just looking forward get general thoughts. Middle name is Jean. Thanks :)

First thing that comes to my mind is the Kinks song....."L-O-L-A, Lola" but I guess that probably won't be an issue for younger generations.

DivGirl · 16/02/2020 14:33

I was going to post The Kinks song too, which is interestingly about a woman he falls in love with who turns out to be a man. Don't imagine it's too popular a song these days so she could probably live her whole life and never hear it.

I don't actually like the name though, no real reason but not my style. It's inoffensive though.

Spied · 16/02/2020 14:37

I like it.
(Unfortunately around here everybody's dog seems to be called Lola)

DarningKittens · 16/02/2020 14:39

Kinks here too

RightOnTheEdge · 16/02/2020 14:41

I love it, I have a friend called Lola and their is a little girl in my dcs school with the name.
It's lovely.

Poppydaisies · 16/02/2020 14:41

Stripper name imo

BarkandCheese · 16/02/2020 14:45

For younger people their first association would probably be Charlie and Lola rather than the Kinks. It’s fairly popular here, it fits in with the current trend for short girls names which end in a like Isla, Ava, Eva, Ella and Mia.

Singingatmidnight · 16/02/2020 14:47

I know a baby Lola, it suits her.

Bonkersblond · 16/02/2020 14:48

Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl - Barry Manilow song too! It was on my short list but wasn’t brave enough!

damnthatanxiety · 16/02/2020 14:49

Poppydaisies Charlie and Lola is hardly bringing up images of a stripper.

MummySharn · 16/02/2020 14:50

I love Lola

NeverGuessWho · 16/02/2020 14:52

I know three Lolas ranging in age from 7 to 12 years old.

I like it.

Fantasiaa · 16/02/2020 14:53

I like it a lot ! :)

SapphosRock · 16/02/2020 15:07

Really like it! It's a very pretty name

Nowayorhighway · 16/02/2020 15:35

It’s renowned for being either a prostitute or transvestite in both songs and literature. I wouldn’t use it for that reason although not personally keen on it anyway.

damnthatanxiety · 16/02/2020 16:06

Nowayorhighway you must be too old to know about Charlie and Lola. What is renown for one generation is not for the next!

Poppydaisies · 16/02/2020 16:33

Charlie and Lola is hardly bringing up images of a stripper.

No, but the op asked for OUR opinions and associations of the name.

Poppydaisies · 16/02/2020 16:35

It’s renowned for being either a prostitute or transvestite in both songs and literature

That's why I wouldn't use it either.

Beamur · 16/02/2020 16:37
