A middle name for Winter

Hi all,

Looking for some inspiration for a middle name to go with Winter - we don't know what we are having (due on Wednesday) but would be using this name for a little girl.

Want to avoid any flower names (Rose, Violet, Jasmine, Ivy etc.) as think it makes it sound too much like a plant. Also don't want Grace - over done and also a bit twee with Winter.

I quite like:

Winter Eden
Winter Esme
Winter Isla

Not set on any of them though!

Not looking for opinions on the name please - know it's not everyone's cup of tea and that's OK!!

Thanks in advance all!

Winter Snow - I think it sounds beautiful x

IrishPeaches · 10/02/2020 22:46

Completely agree @TheWomanTheyCallJayne

There's a risk you put it with one of them and it sounds like a Yankee candle. I think a more "normal" or traditional name after works best.

Also - just had to google Nymbler. WHY didn't I find this earlier!? Thanks @TheWomanTheyCallJayne !

Ava or Eva

DiNATwist · 10/02/2020 23:07

Winter Cambria
Winter Felice
Winter Grace
Winter Ellice
Winter Damaris
Winter Estee

zurigirl · 11/02/2020 04:19

Not a fan of Esme but I think Eden works well.

Otherwise, something similar sounding like Aspen or Arden?

Winter Meredith like someone suggested above is gorgeous!

Or Winter Marie? Winter Endellion? Winter James?

zurigirl · 11/02/2020 04:24

Oh! I also love Winter Adeline. Smile

MyOtherProfile · 11/02/2020 04:49

If it's a boy then will struggle even more

Winter would work for a boy. Probably not paired with Elizabeth though Grin

YicketyYackMamasBack · 11/02/2020 05:28

Winter Rosalie
Winter Meredith
Winter Charlotte
Winter Bethany
Winter Tamara
Winter Jasmine
Winter Jemima

Winter Helena

puds11 · 11/02/2020 05:54

I think it needs to be a longer middle name.

Not Winter Jasmine, that is a plant. Although I do like Winter Rose and that is both short and a flower Hmm

BusterGonad · 11/02/2020 06:31

I've never thought of Winter before but I like it, I think I'd go with Winter Pearl. I think that's beautiful, my next fav is Winter Wren.

FreshHorizons · 11/02/2020 06:41

Elizabeth

paintfairy · 11/02/2020 08:59

Definitely avoid anything sounding like a product description, some above sound terrible.
Agree the longer middle names look better. Elizabeth wouldn't be a go to name for me usually, but Winter Elizabeth does sound really nice.

Also agree the name works well with no middle name at all.

Whatsyourflava · 11/02/2020 09:18

@donquixotedelamancha nearly 160 babies were named winter in 2018 and its rising. No way is this name seen as a joke! Think you better get used to the name as you’re going to keep hearing it ❄️
I think it’s gorgeous

HitsAndMrs · 11/02/2020 09:20

Wonderland?
Sky Grin

I'd go with a one syllable name.
Ray
Rose
Eve

IrishPeaches · 11/02/2020 09:23

Thank you @Whatsyourflava !Smile

Completely agree @paintfairy - exactly what I'm trying to avoid!

Interesting some people say one syllable works best and some prefer the sound of a longer name.

I so would @MyOtherProfile but DH only likes it for a girl! Finding boys names so much harder haha

SeagullSamba · 11/02/2020 09:40

Winter Marie
Winter Gabrielle

DameSylvieKrin · 11/02/2020 09:48

As big sister has a middle name, how about a family surname such as your mother’s maiden name as a middle name? This avoids Yankee Candle syndrome.

Whatsyourflava · 11/02/2020 09:52

How about Walter for a boy @IrishPeaches ? Do you have a shortlist

mumme111 · 11/02/2020 09:52

My daughter is wynter Mary x

IrishPeaches · 11/02/2020 10:07

@DameSylvieKrin we used my Nan's name for DD1. Have thought about other family names but there isn't one that works really. Mum's maiden name is actually a first girls name but a bit dated (think common 80s/early 90s). Lovely idea though. X

@Whatsyourflava funny you say that name - that's my DH's lovely grandfather and we have thought about using it as a middle name. Current shortlist of boys is Kit, Raphael, Samuel. I wanted Rex or River but DH not keen.

X

winter cold

user1493494961 · 11/02/2020 12:23

Winter Elizabeth goes well, Winter Eden is a bit descriptive. I like your boys shortlist, (but not keen on your names, sorry!)

IrishPeaches · 11/02/2020 12:40

Haha that's fine @user1493494961 they have been designated to the bin anyway!

Think Winter Elizabeth is winning at the moment x
