Hi girls!
Struggling so much with girl names, there's barely any I like! After what seemed like forever we both love the name Arla, but after research found out it's a dairy company!😩
So me and OH agreed if this was the name we chose we would spell it Arlagh (no question about it)
So I just want to know if you was introduced to a little girl named Arlagh would you instantly think dairy farm???

If it’s pronounced like Arla - yes I’d think of the dairy farm. When I see that it is written as Arlagh I’m going to Hmm

She’ll have a lifetime of people spelling her name like the dairy farm and her having to correct them.

pilates · 01/02/2020 07:59

How about Orla?

Monsterjam · 01/02/2020 08:01

Yep I’d this dairy and awful spelling

Monsterjam · 01/02/2020 08:02

Oh how ironic I spelt think wrong !! (Can I blame auto correct)

MrsMozartMkII · 01/02/2020 08:03

Many people would pronounce that as Ar-lag...

Pipandmum · 01/02/2020 08:06

Second @MrsMozart. Awful spelling. And I've never heard of that diary company. But as @pilates
Suggests Orla very similar?

Bittersweet12 · 01/02/2020 08:08

I liked orla but it doesn't go with my surname orla😩

BobbyBlueCat · 01/02/2020 08:09

The 'gh' spelling is dreadful.
It just looks phlegmy and gunky. I imagine people spitting I'm to a tissue after saying her name.

I actually think Arla sounds more like a boy's name than a girl's anyway.

Just use Orla.

Bittersweet12 · 01/02/2020 08:12

That's my problem orla was top of the list, but it doesn't go with my surname at all so I've had to cross it off :(

Arlagh looks like some sort of agricultural product to me not sure why
And lots of people would pronounce it Arlag
That looks s a nd sounds like a LOTR Ork

There are so many beautiful girls names please don’t saddle her with this

Bittersweet12 · 01/02/2020 08:15

I know you guys are trying to help and I appreciate it but my question was more of if you was to associate the name with the dairy product, I don't expect everyone to like the names I do x

If you like Orla, how about Orna (also an Irish name, but less well known).

Goostacean · 01/02/2020 08:18

Never heard of the dairy company. I like Arla.

MrsMozartMkII · 01/02/2020 08:21

I like the name Arla.

I wouldn't think of the dairy company. Some kids would when they see it in the shops.

I don't like the alternative spelling, and don't think a good portion of people would pronounce it as you want.

Sux2buthen · 01/02/2020 08:21

I had the same worries about my son, vitalite.

Lol no, I've never heard of Arla as a dairy company, it's pretty.

Amys136 · 01/02/2020 08:24

Yep, I’d think of yoghurt

PeppaisaBitch · 01/02/2020 08:29

If you don't like arla because of the diary connection, spelling it differently but pronouncing it the same won't change that. 90% hear the name before seeing it written down.
I would think dairy.
I also think arlagh is an awful spelling that she would forever be correcting and explaining how you made up a spelling. Please don't do that.
Call her arla or something else.

LoveB · 01/02/2020 08:33

I wouldn't think of the diary. And I have to agree with the others, Arla is much nicer than Arlagh. It's a lovely name!

Marcipex · 01/02/2020 08:37

Yes it’s a brand name but the dairy company might not exist in ten years time.
Arla is much nicer than Arlagh though. It’s almost how I write Arghh.
Just go with Arla or do you like Ayla?

FernBritanica · 01/02/2020 08:38

Orla
Lorna
Aria
?

mytypeonpaper · 01/02/2020 08:41

I like Arla and wouldn't think of dairy?

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 01/02/2020 08:43

I like it. Never heard of the dairy company But does it matter anyway? Plenty of children called flora around!

CalleighDoodle · 01/02/2020 08:43

Use Arla.

eavers · 01/02/2020 08:45

Dont uee Arlagh it looks like Arghhh written down.

Mandarinfish · 01/02/2020 08:49

Not keen on the Arlagh spelling - I'd go for Arla and not worry about the dairy farm thing. Or Aria?
