I've been told name choices are unkind to DD on the way

We are expecting a sister for our DD Annie Coco.
We've had a little opposition to our favourite names for this one, but then none of my close relatives liked DD's name either but it gets a lot of compliments now and suits her down to the ground.

Would love thoughts on our current shortlist...

Ottilie (Would love to name her Ottilie Tiger and her pet name would be Tilly Tiger but I've been told this is cruel?)
Clementine
Sunny (would want to use Clementine as middle name for this)
Clover
Juniper (we just love the nn Junie)
Indigo (we love the nn Indie)
Mollie
Maggie

Ottilie - will be Ottie. Tilly is a bit of a stretch.
Clementine - not keen. Too twee and too fruity
Sunny (would want to use Clementine as middle name for this) - too nicknamey
Clover - a bit of a cow name
Juniper (we just love the nn Junie) - it's a bit naff
Indigo (we love the nn Indie) - call her India.
Mollie - fine.
Maggie - fine

Sunny Clementine and Tilly Tiger are not really suitable are they.

My son has an out there name, so much so that my in-laws refused to use it and refer to him by his middle name (George, purposefully chosen for him to be able to have a normal name if he chose).
Anyway, his name suits him and when he was about 7 he actually ignored Grandparents whenever they called him George and asked them to call him by his first name. He is now 12 and loves his name. I’m pregnant and he has asked if we can name the baby after him 🤣 The shortened version is cool and I’ve heard a few more children about with this name but never heard anyone with his full name. I’d go with whatever makes you happy, children grow in to their names and nothing on your list is unheard of or cruel. Not like you’re wanting to name them Carrot!

SunshineCake · 25/01/2020 18:21

Hmm. You seemed too easily influenced by family members.

If you want a name have it. There will always be something about it that someone will criticise.

MousematsRule · 25/01/2020 18:25

Thank you everybody for your input and especially for the kind and constructive comments!

To be honest, I'm a bit surprised at some of the criticisms about why I'm asking for opinions - this is supposed to be a forum where you get objective feedback isn't it? Lots of people do it on here every day, if they didn't you wouldnt be here, and I have found this genuinely helpful.

And as for the many comments saying it's all a bit too 'try hard'. Well yes, doesn't everybody try hard to choose the right name?
ConfusedHmm

Have also really appreciated some of the alternative suggestions. Thanks again

I like all the names except Tiger. I dont think that will age well. You could have Tillie Tiger as a nickname without naming her that. Ottillie is stunning! Tye could maybe work - it's a boys name to me but as a middle name it could be more unisex. I dint think you should do a nickname in the actual name though in case it ends up not sticking! I think Ottilie Indigo is gorgeous!!! Or Ottilie Margaret sounds very glamorous to me! Margaret being the longer version of Maggie on your list. Ottilie Clover is also cute! You have so many beautiful names on your list. I just dont think Tiger is highlighting your lovely taste! xo

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 25/01/2020 18:31

I agree! I know we want honest feedback but this is a board to get feedback but people can deliver it tactfully. I'll never understand the claws that come out over name boards. In person if you dont like someone's name youd probably never even say anything so I dont understand the viciousness either!!

MousematsRule · 25/01/2020 18:33

@SunshineCake hmm. You seemed too easily influenced by family members

Not really? I've stated my family didn't like my DD's name, which she was still given. No influence there.

I seem to have made the mistake of giving a little bit of background in this post, more as conversation really. But people seem to be stunned that I am interested in what others think. I've had some negative comments about my ideas, I've posted on here to get some objective views as many people do every day. Ultimately, I will be making up my own mind. Thanks

Indigo, Juniper and Maggie are lovely.

Clementine and Ottilie are awful.

Clover and Sunny are nice.

Ultimately op it's your choice. Why tell them in the first place? Especially if they weren't pleasant about your dd.

TrickyKid · 25/01/2020 19:01

I think they're all really cool names.

thescarftwins · 25/01/2020 19:41

Gorgeous names OP. Congratulations!

MsTSwift · 25/01/2020 19:45

I think name boards are helpful as anonymous people can be honest. Am hardly going to say to my lovely friend that I think her dds name is very dull and generic

isittooearlyforgin · 25/01/2020 19:54

@MsTSwift plenty of successful Daisy's around: lovely MP Daisy cooper, actress Daisy Lowe, Daisy Haggard from Uncle and Episodes, Daisy McAndrew journalist, actress Daisy Ridley... there are more

Dustarr73 · 25/01/2020 20:22

The thing is though, you are always going to get people who dont like your name choice.Too old fashioned, too out there, too boring.

Just name the child what you like.Dont worry about her being Prime Minister or a scientist. After all not all Prime Ministers are called Tony.

doritosdip · 25/01/2020 20:35

Tiger is cruel. Call her Tilly Tiger at home

Juniper and Clover are cow names in my opinion.

The others are fine but my favourites are Ottilie and Clementine

Sunny is cute as a nickname for a young girl but might not suit a grumpy teen lol

Mummyofatinyterror · 25/01/2020 20:46

I have an Ottilie, and I LOVE IT! She suits it as well.
We named her Ottilie Marie.

What about Ottilie Juniper.

She's your child, stuff what anyone else thinks. But I do agree with saying the name out loud in a professional manner. But who actually uses their middle name anyway?!
Good luck x

Lucylivesinamushroomhouse · 25/01/2020 21:01

I love Clementine (have met quite a few recently) and Ottilie (was on our list too!). Also like Clover and Indigo.

Tillie tiger is such a cute nickname, but I do agree with PPs that it doesn’t have to be her actual middle name.

I agree it’s very odd to go on a baby names forum and criticise posters for asking opinions on baby names.....!!?

Whatsyourflava · 25/01/2020 21:09

@MousematsRule some of the comments on an opinion forum berating you for asking an opinion... in an opinion forum... are bizarre!!

I love Clementine and Ottilie

I think tiger is fine as a middle name. Maybe give her 2 middle names so she has another realistic option for an alternative name (that’s what I’ve used my children’s middle names for anyway - an alternative first name option if they want it)

user1493494961 · 25/01/2020 21:56

Clementine is lovely. Dislike Sunny and Clover. Tiger is ridiculous.

zurigirl · 25/01/2020 22:43

I love all of them except for maybe Mollie and Maggie (this last one especially as I can only think of the Simpsons character!). But I particularly love Sunny, Juniper, Clover and Clementine.

zurigirl · 25/01/2020 22:46

Sunny is especially cute as it reminds me of Sunny Baudelaire. Smile

Happymum12345 · 25/01/2020 23:28

I love all the names on your list!

Goodgollymiss · 26/01/2020 00:33

May have already been mentioned but summer instead of sunny maybe?? aurora is a nice unusual not too out there name imo

Keepmewarm · 26/01/2020 00:35

Every single one of those names (and Annie coco) is stunning.
You have fabulous taste.

Keepmewarm · 26/01/2020 00:37

Forgot to say my daughter’s name is on your list and we haven’t had any problems! She’s an adult. Suits her name, just sad that she could never find a pencil case with her name on!

ballsdeep · 26/01/2020 00:49

Juniper = juniper arse
