I've been told name choices are unkind to DD on the way

We are expecting a sister for our DD Annie Coco.
We've had a little opposition to our favourite names for this one, but then none of my close relatives liked DD's name either but it gets a lot of compliments now and suits her down to the ground.

Would love thoughts on our current shortlist...

Ottilie (Would love to name her Ottilie Tiger and her pet name would be Tilly Tiger but I've been told this is cruel?)
Clementine
Sunny (would want to use Clementine as middle name for this)
Clover
Juniper (we just love the nn Junie)
Indigo (we love the nn Indie)
Mollie
Maggie

SE13Mummy · 24/01/2020 23:31

Ottilie is lovely and I think it goes well with Clover as a middle name.

Annie Coco and Ottilie Clover as a pair of sisters works; a bit cutesy because of the middle names but not outrageously so.

TheYearOfTheDog · 24/01/2020 23:32

I like them all except Ottilie
Maggie is my favourite.

They're all quite 'of the era' so whoever said ''you have to think of the child'' has no idea what children are really being called right now.

@JengaNonConfirming and @Dobbytheelf thank you

Why do people get hung up on middle names? Ie ooh you can’t call her that first name with that middle name...in most cases no one even knows what anyone’s middle name is and it just doesn’t crop up so call your child what you want middle name wise. Ottilie is getting quite popular. - I’ve taught two and we’re both very sweet

Honeywort · 24/01/2020 23:37

Haven’t rtft, but I know quite a few baby Ottilies- I think it’s one of those names that is suddenly going to get quite popular, so if you actively want an unusual name/ want her to be the only one on the class, it might be worth considering

Milicentbystander72 · 24/01/2020 23:38

I love your choices, although not too keen on
Indigo
Mollie
Juniper

I adore Clementine. I really like Ottilie and Clover.

I have a dd and a ds. DD's middle name is Pearl. She's 15 and says she often wishes it was her first name as it stands out a bit at school. I don't think she's change it now but I think just go for what you genuinely like.

I loved Marigold, Primrose and Rain when I was pg with her....I still wonder if I should have just gone with one of them and stuffed what anyone thought!

Milicentbystander72 · 24/01/2020 23:40

Also, Sunny is a character in the children's books "A Series if Unfortunate Events". She's extremely wonderful and unique!

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 24/01/2020 23:42

Please just remember that this child will one day have to go to secondary school and write a cv and apply for jobs with this name. Other children can be very cruel and I can honestly say that where I work, a CV bearing the name ottilie tiger or sunny clementine would be immediately tossed in the shredder, unread, having been dismissed as a joke application much like the one we received once from Superman.

Do you want your child to hate you?

Elle7rose · 24/01/2020 23:42

Most of those are lovely names. Ottilie with the nickname 'Tilly' (and a jokey nickname 'Tilly Tiger') sounds sweet.

Skittlesandbeer · 24/01/2020 23:46

If you like the nickname Sunny, what about Soleil as a first name? I know a couple of lovely ones, with slightly ‘out there’ mums! It has a bit of history, but also unusual.

HappyAndSmile · 24/01/2020 23:47

Santana is a lovely name with Sunny as a nickname.

Chocowoka · 24/01/2020 23:49

Tiger IMO would be a cruel middle name. ‘Tilly Tiger’, I mean, really? Has it not occurred to you that other kids may ridicule that name?

It’s not just what you like and think is ‘cute’ for a toddler.... you’ve got to think about whether it’s too unusual, silly, OTT, ridiculous to the point it could be detrimental to the child.

The other names aren’t my cup of tea but that doesn’t matter. And Ottillie on its own is really nice. Just don’t add ‘tiger’ at the end of it for goodness sake. Totally agree with a pp, it’s the type of name a C list celebrity would use to be different 🙄

MyNewBearTotoro · 24/01/2020 23:54

I like your taste in names. I have a Juniper and Ottilie and Indigo were on my short list.

Your first names are all fine but I would question some of your middle name choices. I’m not keen on Tiger as a middle name at all, aside from the fact I’ve only heard it used as a boys name before I think ‘Tilly Tiger’ sounds silly and like a Peppa Pig character. I also think if you’re going to go for a name such as Sunny which is an adjective you can’t then use a name which is a noun such as Clementine for a middle name.

TatianaLarina · 24/01/2020 23:55

Sunny is Sunny Von Bulow to me.

I like Ottilie and Clementine.

Clover is a cow and Juniper is a horse. The others are ok but meh.

Catsandchardonnay · 25/01/2020 00:04

Apart from Mollie and possibly Clementine I think they’re all awful. Especially Maggie and Sunny. Please imagine your baby growing up to be a judge or barrister and have a rethink.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 25/01/2020 00:07

I like all your names except for Clover. It reminds me of butter for some reason.

I LOVE Otillie Tiger. I knew an Ivy Tiger and it was really lovely and suited the DD down to the ground, not in the least bit 'chav' at all.

I say go with what you want!

isittooearlyforgin · 25/01/2020 00:07

@nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut but I’ve never once written my full name on a cv just first and last so no one would know if I had a cute or silly middle name

MabelCloth · 25/01/2020 00:08

Ottilie (Would love to name her Ottilie Tiger and her pet name would be Tilly Tiger but I've been told this is cruel?)

Ottilie is great. Tiger is silly / childish

Clementine - good
Sunny (would want to use Clementine as middle name for this) NO
Clover -Ok
Juniper (we just love the nn Junie) GOOD
Indigo (we love the nn Indie) OK
Mollie OK
Maggie OK

DuchessMinnie · 25/01/2020 00:14

I have worked with a few Sunnys- it is often short for Sunday in Nigeria. I adore Clementine, love love love Clemmie :)

saraclara · 25/01/2020 00:17

You have to imagine your child as an adult. Maybe as a politician, a lawyer, a teacher, a policewoman, a grown up professional... then decide if the name you are giving them will make other people judge them unfairly or take them less seriously before they even meet

Beat me to it. I was rtft while planning to say exactly this. You're not just naming a toddler with a cutesie name. This person will grow into an adult, probably a professional, and in need of a name that works for her. 50% of your names are a complete liability for any adult hoping for an iota of respect in their job (or even in getting their application form taken seriously).

Ingridla · 25/01/2020 00:18

I think they're all gorgeous names

RainbowMum11 · 25/01/2020 00:18

All are lovely names - ignore others and don't tell them until your baby is here & you've decided x

BillHadersNewWife · 25/01/2020 00:30

All lovely. Some people can't cope with anyone choosing to go their own path. Besides, unusual names are not so unusual any longer.

My DD"s friendship group sounds like a weird rock group or an anime cartoon.
They're all called things like Star and Otter. DD's "unusual" name is probably the most ordinary! They're 15.

BillHadersNewWife · 25/01/2020 00:31

Hey OP do you like the name "Posie"? I love it. DH wouldn't have it though.
