Thoughts on the name Louisa

Just curious what people think of the name Louisa? What would you associate with this name?

Suggestions for middle names?

Louisa is a name that's never been overused, so has remained timeless.

It's a lovely name. Not too popular and everyone will know how to spell it.

The only downside is the same one that all people with an A at the end of their name have - it will get shortened to Louise. There are people who will do this even when you correct them every time because people are annoying.

It's not a bad name but I immediately thought Sound of Music.

It’s lovely and I don’t think it sounds dated like Louise does. I was at school in the ‘90s with an awful lot of Louises (and even more Claire Louises!) and just one Louisa. I lusted after her name!

Louisa was on our shortlist, as was Alice (and Elizabeth for a middle name), but we had boys.

And can I just say reading all these comments saying that Eloise is a good name/spelling and Elouise is not and looks like you can't spell makes me so pleased!
I named my child Eloise never for one moment thinking there'd be problems spelling it. It is/wasn't a too common name not out there and is the right/traditional spelling. Yet I go through her life with people forever putting a U in it! It's a completely different name to Louise!
I just never expected it!

Going against the grain here, it seems. I really dislike it. I know it's not, but to my ear it sounds really common, and a bit dated. When I hear it the image it conjures up for me is of a harassed woman screeching down the street, 'Looo-eeee-sa, get in now.' Also dislike Louise. I do like Eloise and, despite a pp's comment that it's overused in the UK, I very rarely hear it. It sounds classier to me.

Last time I looked Eloise was not far outside of the most popular 100. Which I've not heard of many others so I would actually have thought it was less popular than that but there you go. I'm sure when mine was born it was less popular but I don't really know how to check in that year

Love it. Was on final 2 list for dd2 & used it as a middle name. Wish I'd used it now. Dd2 is desperate to change her name because there are 4 children with the -a version of her name in their reception cohort of 60 & so people get it wrong all the time.

We love it and currently Louisa Jane is our top girls combo. Lovely, classic and with good family links on both sides

But prefer Luisa. And the pronunciation could be the slightly lighter "luwissa" which doesn't sound as dated

Never heard of Elouisa in the states at all.

Louisa seems sweet, I only know one but she pronounces it with almost a W sound like Wisa. Shes Latina so I think it's just the accent.

I do like it more than Louise.

Lovely name. We used it as a middle name, I'd still use it as a first name.

Best name ever. May be slightly biased. Be prepared for her to be mis named Louise by people oh so frequently. Never really get called Lou. Lots of other variations of nicknames though.
