Just curious what people think of the name Louisa? What would you associate with this name?

Suggestions for middle names?

I love it. I know three, all different ages, two known as Lulu.

babysnowman · 14/01/2020 21:40

I think it's beautiful

suchameanie · 14/01/2020 21:41

Love it.
Have Spanish friends who have a baby Luisa.

PetraRabbit · 14/01/2020 22:08

I love it too. I know one in her 40s, but it's very underused these days which is a huge plus for me. I like it a lot more than Louise which doesn't have the light pretty sound Louisa does.

DistantVworp · 14/01/2020 22:13

Loads of female relatives - from great grand-mother to DD and a million cousins(Portuguese) are Luisa - love love love it

SometimesItRains · 14/01/2020 22:18

Love it - it was on my list for girls, but I ended up with 2 boys so couldn’t use it.

blackice · 14/01/2020 22:21

very pretty and unusual

christmasathome · 14/01/2020 22:29

Tillygetsit · 14/01/2020 22:30

My dgm's name so I love it. Her middle name was Molly.

DramaAlpaca · 14/01/2020 22:37

I love Louisa, it's gorgeous.

I agree with MikeUniformMike above, in that Louise, Louisa and Eloise are all lovely, but Elouise and Elouisa look like you don't know how to spell.

SeagullOnTheWind · 14/01/2020 22:55

I'm Louise, I've been called Louisa before and I like it even though it's not my name.

My DC had a friend called Ellouise, the parents didn't know how to spell it eyeroll and I do feel sorry for kids who end up with names spelt genuinely wrongly on the birth certificate.

Eloise - there's a song by this name sung by The Damned.

Louise - Human League wrote one called this.

There was another which I can remember the tune to but I've no idea who wrote it.

Louisa is lovely. And it's interesting to see people's opinions on it.

ParsleyPot · 15/01/2020 00:09

Louisa is a beautiful name.

I don't like Elouise. Sounds made up. (I know it's a proper name)

jfoyo26 · 15/01/2020 00:22

I really like Louisa. We opted for Louise in the end as we preferred it slightly. Her middle name is Catherine and we get a lot of compliments on the combination.

HalfManHalfLabrador · 15/01/2020 00:26

I went to school with a horrible Louisa and it’s put me off

MadCatLadee · 15/01/2020 00:28

Louisa Rose

Chocmallows · 15/01/2020 00:28

Beautiful name.

DramaAlpaca · 15/01/2020 00:31

Parsley Elouise is made up, it's a misspelling of Eloise.

Ibloodylovewomen · 15/01/2020 00:43

Louisa Claire

SemperIdem · 15/01/2020 00:44

I think it is plain.

Astronica · 15/01/2020 01:55

Louisa is lovely. It makes me think of Louisa May Alcott. As pps have said, if you use Eloise or Eloisa only those spellings.

LTEMercedes · 15/01/2020 08:15

Thank you all! Don't worry we won't go for Elouise/Elouisa ... It's either Louisa or a completely different name. Thank you also for all your middle name suggestions.

Love it! Was my aunt's name. Strongly considered it for one of my DDs but family issues prevented me using it.

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 15/01/2020 08:18

My first thought is Louisa May Alcott - author of Little Women. I've always thought it was a beautiful name.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 15/01/2020 08:25

DDs name. She's nearly 7 now. Never had a negative comment, and loads of positive ones. It worked equally well in all the countries we have lived in.
Her nickname is Isa. (Ease-ah). Never been shortened to Lou or Lulu.
Her middle name is an old family name and definitely 'old lady'. One syllable.

Mamabear88 · 15/01/2020 09:04

It's lovely! I really like it. Ignore the 'it's dated' nonsense. I think it's classic and timeless. I had such comments as 'oh that's not very 2019' for my DD's name and I have no regrets. As for middle names I second avoiding Grace, May and Rose. Very overused. How about Louisa Marie?
