This was my top choice for a girl but a close friend has just used for her daughter.

Looking for something classic that can be shortened. Any ideas?

do not call your baby just Beth!! lol dont do it it's a pain in the ass and for her whole life she will have to say " I'm just beth " lol

coiner · 02/01/2020 23:56

Buffy/Buffi is short for Elizabeth. Or Betty/Beti (the latter is more welsh)

coiner · 02/01/2020 23:56

What about Ruth or Ruthie?

I think names similar to Elizabeth are Alexandra, Vivienne, Catherine and possibly Victoria (a name I love but really dislike Vicky as a nn).
If you like Beth though - Bethany, Elsbeth, Bethan, Mary-Beth, or just Beth on its own.

How close is the friend (emotionally and geographically)? And what will the age gap between the two kids be?

I have an Elizabeth (toddler) and a friend (mainly a work colleague but lives locally) has a newborn Elizabeth. I'm not offended in the slightest.

It's a relatively common name so difficult to accuse someone of stealing it.

TheLette · 03/01/2020 21:44

I should add - as an alternative I love Emily, Elise, Eloise and Emmeline. Love names beginning with E!

midsomermurderess · 03/01/2020 23:25

Eleanor, nn Nell.

OwlBeThere · 04/01/2020 03:41

Why does it need a nickname? Why can’t you just name her what you like and see what naturally develops?

BikeRunSki · 04/01/2020 03:48

Stephanie - Annie?

Josephine - Josie, Posie

Carolemia · 04/01/2020 03:50

I love the Welsh name Bethan (we call her Beth) It’s my cousin’s name. Also in my family we have a Rhiannon (Rhi for short) and a Megan (Meg) - good luck!
