This was my top choice for a girl but a close friend has just used for her daughter.

Looking for something classic that can be shortened. Any ideas?

Ettie or Etta

LilouBlue · 02/01/2020 09:44

You could use Stevie for Stephanie, but most people would use Steph automatically.
Elizabeth is a lovely name, it's a shame your friend has used it because even if you used a different nickname it would look to some people like you had "stolen" the name... 🙄

ironicname · 02/01/2020 09:49

The queen's pet name was Lilibet.

Catrescue1971 · 02/01/2020 09:55

We used my son's nickname immediately and the original longer name is a distant memory. I would choose the name you like and use it personally. Bessie or Betsy is quite nice.

Glitterb · 02/01/2020 09:59

We have an Elizabeth in the family but she has always been Betty

Daisydoola · 02/01/2020 10:01

My aunt Stephanie is a Fanny Shock

leccybill · 02/01/2020 10:03

I'd just use it. I know a group of friends where 3 of them have a Joseph and 3 have a Harry. It's no big deal.

tigerbear · 02/01/2020 10:07

Beatrice?

Yika · 02/01/2020 10:09

Elizabeth is such a classic I think you could go for it anyway even with the friend having already chosen it.

Or spell it differently - Elisabeth?

Some other suggestions:
Helena
Constance
Juliana
Rebecca
Antonia
Beatrice
Leonora
Isadora
Lucinda
Seraphine
Tamara

If you don’t like any of the other nickname options then Elizabeth is a silly choice really as you can’t choose what nickname other people will use. Just call her Bethany if you want Beth.

user1493494961 · 02/01/2020 11:55

I'd still go with Elizabeth if that's the name you want. Someone I know didn't use a name because a close friend had chosen it, friend has moved away and they now rarely see each other.

BAYouTFall · 02/01/2020 11:58

Elizabete?

CadburysTastesVileNow · 02/01/2020 12:03

Wasn't Biff an Elizabeth, (from Biff Chip and Kipper)?
