Do you like the name Seven for a girl?

My husband and I are curious as to how the first name Seven would be for a girl. The number is significant to us biblically and means the number of completeness, as she will be completing our family. There are many other reasons behind Seven.

Is it too out there, or is it cool?

Thanks for any input! Smile

@MyKingdomForBrie I thought this was a thread asking for comments about the name?

I commented that while it’s fun and quirky, the baby in question might find it challenging in later life. I wasn’t insinuating it would affect her career choices, I put her in the ceo position, just highlighted that the a me might make her feel self conscious. I also commented that it might not.

I am sorry if I caused offence to anyone. Others said no to he name, I merely expanded on why I was saying no.

I’m not old fashioned, the whole world snigger at celebrity names - remember the headlines over apple?

But people can name their children what they want - just don’t ask for opinions if you don’t actually want to hear them.

If you really want to use the name how about Hepta? It is seven in Ancient Greek which is the language a lot of the New Testament is written in and it sounds more like a name.

I would use it as a middle name though.

Dollymixture22 · 30/12/2019 10:29

Also, why is it okay to say teal is an awful name?

Crabonastick · 30/12/2019 10:29

My DD1’s middle name is Seven. Wouldn’t have considered it for a first name though. She has a very normal (though not Mumsnet approved!) first name. She never even uses her middle name and doesn’t even know it’s her middle name. Put it there if you must but don’t inflict it on your child as a first name!

MirriMazDuur · 30/12/2019 10:31

I like Hepta.

TiddlestheCat · 30/12/2019 10:33

It sounds like a child out of Stranger Things.

RoseMartha · 30/12/2019 10:33

No.

Goatinthegarden · 30/12/2019 10:42

Trying to read George’s Marvellous Medicine to a class of 6 year olds when you have a child named George in the class is painful enough. They just find it SO unbelievably funny when there is a character with the same name as a classmate.

I can only imagine how excruciating it would be to teach maths with a child named Seven in the class.

Mlou32 · 30/12/2019 10:47

Oh no. What happened to lovely traditional names?

Shelby2010 · 30/12/2019 11:03

Gemma is nice. Go with Gemma.

WeirdPookah · 30/12/2019 11:06

Eleven's and Eight's sister from the experiments in Stranger Things?

fluffiphlox · 30/12/2019 11:06

“42”.

MistletoeSteveMcDonald · 30/12/2019 11:20

Could be worse, could be 69 (with a middle name of dude). OP hopefully once you've had her you will look back at your choices and be relieved you went with a proper name and not a number or a colour.

PsychosonicCindy · 30/12/2019 11:21

I think seven is ok as a middle name if it's important to you middle names aren't used that often so why not?
Teal really nice! Love Abney & Teal she is cool and wish I lived on that island! Also like pps suggestion of Teasel. Teal would fit right in at my dds primary school such an unusual array of names there!
I don't think Gemma is outdated at all I know two under 10! One spells it Jemma though which I prefer. How is Gemma not good yet Jemima is MN favourite??

sandybanana · 30/12/2019 11:22

Nope

inmyshoos · 30/12/2019 11:26

I quite like it. Probably because it sounds like 11 and I loved Stranger Things. Your child op. Your choice. I like it!

MaryPopppins · 30/12/2019 11:26

It's a no for me. Makes her sound like an experiment.

Itsigginingtolookalotlikexmas · 30/12/2019 11:27

It's not nice heading a name you like being ridiculed on mumsnet. BUT it is what people in RL would be thinking but not saying, so probably better to know?

Drum2018 · 30/12/2019 11:28

No, Seven would sound ridiculous as a name.

Lordfrontpaw · 30/12/2019 11:29

Why ‘seven’ and not ‘7’?

GoGoLego · 30/12/2019 11:30

Sorry imagine her name the one the school register say and the teacher shouting her name out Len goodman SCD style. Afraid it's a no from me

AlexaShutUp · 30/12/2019 11:31

Not cool at all, I'm afraid. It sounds dreadful.

Mamabear88 · 30/12/2019 11:31

Awful. If you must use it, i'd go with middle name not first.

Lweji · 30/12/2019 11:32

The Romans sometimes used to number their children. Literally, Prima, Secunda, Tercia... Septima. Does that appeal to you?

Lweji · 30/12/2019 11:34

Or Neves. Like Neve Campbell but plural.
Still seven, but in reverse...
