Sylvia

Not getting very far with name options for a girl. Husband has suggested Sylvia. I certainly don’t hate it in the way I have other names he’s come up with. Think I quite like the nickname Sylvie. What do people think? Too old/middle-aged, or ripe for revival?

Beautiful.

hungryhippie · 13/11/2019 15:03

I think it is lovely, as is Sylvie

MrsNoMopp · 13/11/2019 15:04

Sylvia is brilliant, a lovely name and more substantial than Sylvie. You can always have Sylvie as nickname too.

FriedasCarLoad · 13/11/2019 15:06

Classic and underused.

Pippilangstrumpfi · 13/11/2019 15:08

Beautiful

ilovetofu · 13/11/2019 15:10

Love love love.

MikeUniformMike · 13/11/2019 15:11

Horrible.

SallyWD · 13/11/2019 15:14

Beautiful, one of my favourite names! I'm just surprised it's not more popular.

goldface · 13/11/2019 15:18

I love it

Paddington68 · 13/11/2019 15:24

Lovely.

Disfordarkchocolate · 13/11/2019 15:26

Sylvie is one of my favourite names, it's beautiful. Not quite as keen on Slyvia, it's a touch harsher.

fishonabicycle · 13/11/2019 15:33

It's my middle name, and was my aunt's name too. I hated it as a child, but rather like it now. It's unusual, but not weird.

ElevenOhFive · 13/11/2019 15:36

I love it!

aHintOfPercy · 13/11/2019 15:39

I love Sylvie, not too keen on Sylvia. What a difference one letter makes!

VenusClapTrap · 13/11/2019 15:42

Lovely. I know a nine year old Sylvia, and it really suits her.

sue51 · 13/11/2019 15:44

Beautiful name.

cheesydoesit · 13/11/2019 16:39

Love it. It's a fantastic name.

BonBon411 · 13/11/2019 16:54

Pretty - also like Sylvia for nn

funnyfeeling · 13/11/2019 16:59

One I wouldn't have thought of but now it's in my head it's really nice. Suits all ages I think.

TheReluctantCountess · 13/11/2019 17:00

I love it! If ds has been a girl he would be Sylvia. It means ‘from the forest’, which is lovely. Plus, my favourite poet is Sylvia Plath.

RedRec · 13/11/2019 17:02

Really lovely name.

NoSauce · 13/11/2019 17:15

Jeez what is it with all these horribly dated names. Yesterday Elaine, now this.

Pippilangstrumpfi · 13/11/2019 18:42

Just because a name is 'old' or 'dated' doesn't mean it s not beautiful!

I love the sound and look of Sylvia! Works great in most other languages too!

lyingwanker · 13/11/2019 18:44

Awful. But strangely, Sylvie sounds much nicer to me

17caterpillars1mouse · 13/11/2019 18:50

I prefer just Sylvie, seems less old ladyish
