I love this name for a girl. DP is coming round to it as well. DM loves it.
But I'm constantly getting bad reactions from friends - enough to have slightly put me off every time.

I appreciate that it's a bit out there but I just think it's gorgeous.

Anyone else out there agreeing with me? Or should I stay put off?

That's silly Eleanor, there's plenty of other threads with people proffering unusual names that have positive responses, but Story just is not a name and leaves the child open to ongoing teasing and clarification testing for the rest of her life.

Frith2013 · 08/11/2019 18:33

Ghastly.

FizzyGreenWater · 08/11/2019 19:39

Oh come on. It's ridiculous, and not even a nice word to make into a name!

hungryhippie · 08/11/2019 19:45

Absolutely dreadful. Please don't saddle a child with a name like that.

Minionoftheantichrist · 08/11/2019 19:45

It sounds very kardashian to me. I think it’s got way too much scope for teasing or daft comments to be a fair thing to do. I can imagine the giggles at school when it’s story time and all the daft but very annoying and irritating “Tell us a story” remarks. I’d not want to burden a child with that. Also don’t think it’s a name that would age well. A 45 year old Story might not feel they are taken seriously when they announce their name.

clpsmum · 09/11/2019 07:29

@CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook this made me laugh! But seriously not naming your daughter a name you love because in years to come she may get chatted up by a sleaze with shit chat up lines is ridiculous!

FluffyAlpaca19 · 09/11/2019 08:15

Where has the OP disappeared to?

LittleCandle · 09/11/2019 08:26

Ghastly! Don't you like this child? Give her a name, not just a word.

rainbowstardrops · 09/11/2019 08:42

I like more unusual names but I don't like it. Sorry.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 09/11/2019 08:51

I’m not a fan and it will get shortened to Stor if not by you others definitely

Bol87 · 09/11/2019 09:11

Full on Kardashian but hey, if that’s your thing! Why not go Stormi Grin just don’t do it if your surname is Book. A-la North West 😩

Someone I vaguely know has a DD called Ocean. I actually think Story is better.

tmh88 · 09/11/2019 09:35

I really like it op!

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 10/11/2019 10:16

@clpsmum

Grin

But we've all been through it and sometimes it's really trying. So why intentionally make it worse? The propensity for shit chat up lines is endless with this name.

VenusClapTrap · 11/11/2019 11:54

Bedtime Story.

Nope.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 11/11/2019 12:00

Just no. Names should actually be names if you ask me. Or maybe I should have named my dc Table and Chair.

SilverySurfer · 11/11/2019 17:06

Absurd

HUZZAH212 · 11/11/2019 18:35

What bad reactions from friends? Laughing and sniggering? 🤔

Heretofckshtup · 12/11/2019 20:07

Story is a name, spelt Stori, from the name Storr which is a Norse name meaning big. Although I’m fairly sure it’s pronounced with a short ‘OR’ with emphasis on the ‘ST’ rather than a long drawn out and emphasis on the ‘OR’.

And even if I didn’t just mention that, a quick google search says it’s a name of American origin. In my eyes, if it’s on Nameberry, it’s a name, and it’s on nameberry.
