I love this name for a girl. DP is coming round to it as well. DM loves it.
But I'm constantly getting bad reactions from friends - enough to have slightly put me off every time.

I appreciate that it's a bit out there but I just think it's gorgeous.

Anyone else out there agreeing with me? Or should I stay put off?

So much nicer than yet another Evie Eva or Mia

MustardScreams · 07/11/2019 07:31

Errr no.

AuntieStella · 07/11/2019 07:35

I don't like surname names on girls.

Yes, I know the surname is usually spelled Storey, but they sound the same. I'd assume boy, probably from one of the areas where naming eldest son with mother's maiden name is still common enough practice

BenWyatt · 07/11/2019 07:39

Please don’t.

MiltonRoad · 07/11/2019 07:44

Never ending

Yeahnahyeah1 · 07/11/2019 07:48

God, that’s absolutely awful.

FenellaMaxwell · 07/11/2019 07:50

Ha! No. Hmm

SoftBlocks · 07/11/2019 07:54

No

Harvey3 · 07/11/2019 07:57

Awful

december20100 · 07/11/2019 09:45

@MiltonRoadGrin

Poor girl just imagine when she hits that blossoming age and starts getting the icky hassling from random guys asking her number in order to date them or just pervs.

"Hi I couldn't help but notice you...What's your name?"

-Story

"Really? So what's yours' then?"
or
"I've always fancied a good story"
or worse:
"Love to go to bed with a good story"

Really just no.

Dandelion1993 · 07/11/2019 11:23

It's not a name.

It's not quirky, different, unique. It's just not a name.

Omashu · 07/11/2019 12:03

I LOVE the name Story!!! For either a boy or a girl. It’s one of my favourites 😁 I know one of each

Omashu · 07/11/2019 12:04

@usernamo I’m sending you a PM!

AutumnalLeaves38 · 07/11/2019 13:03

Chronicle is more stylish Wink

Seriously, though, came on to suggest Saga as an alternative.
(Saga lead character, Scandi crime drama The Bridge?)

Saga, Norse goddess of poetry/history.

But seems she's connected to Goddess named Frigg, so probably best avoid if you're UK-based... Blush
(plus there are inevitable Saga holidays associations).

Topseyt · 07/11/2019 14:02

It is absolutely not a name. It would be awful.

Story book, short story, tall story, long story, old story!

Just no. Stay put off it.

Omashu · 07/11/2019 16:29

You could say the same about the name Mark.

“Ugh what’s what mark on your shirt?” “How many marks did you get?” “I’m going to mark your papers tonight” “that’s going to leave a mark”.....

I know a 30 year old Story so it’s not a new name.

user1493494961 · 07/11/2019 19:41

There's a reason you're getting bad reactions, it's bloody awful.

firstimemamma · 07/11/2019 19:44

It's great that you like it op, but the child has to come first. The chances of teasing / bullying are just too high. Give the child a chance.

TulipsTulipsTulips · 07/11/2019 19:45

I don’t think it’s fair to saddle a child with a random word as a name. It’s the child who will have to live with it, not you.

WeShouldOpenABar · 07/11/2019 19:48

She will suffer if she ever goes to Dublin.
Story? Being a standard greeting often said in an exaggerated townie accent for effect. She'll be roundly mocked.

Nonnymum · 07/11/2019 19:49

Is it a name? I've never heard it as a name before.

firstimemamma · 07/11/2019 19:50

"You could say the same about the name Mark."

No you couldn't. Mark (unlike story) is a widely accepted name that just so happens to also be a word. It's a very common name. I dated a mark once and honestly your 'mark on a shirt thing' never crossed my mind, not once.

This is a bit like when a poster wanted to name their kid icarus and she tried to defend her decision by saying 'well people name children jack and there's Jack the Ripper!'

Trustmeimamidwife · 07/11/2019 19:51

I think it’s cool. Better than Amelia, Olivia, Ava etc...
