What do you think of the name Imogen? Dh loves it! I think it's very pretty. Just wondering what general thoughts were. Also wondering what middle name would go with it?

It's usually very popular on these boards but I absolutely hate it. It's the very opposite of pretty imo...it's seems so ugly, clunky and frumpy to me. I appreciate I'll probably be in the minority though.

Peachbubble · 08/10/2019 15:44

Not a name I would choose personally. It's quite popular, and all the ones I know are called Immy, rather than their full names, so something to consider.

Phoebesgift · 08/10/2019 15:47

Love the name. DH didn't so we have a Phoebe instead.

theatrenerd31 · 08/10/2019 15:49

I used to like it. Then I met someone who's daughter got called "Immo" and it's put me right off 🙈

Basil90 · 08/10/2019 15:53

Awful. Really clunky

Mintypea5 · 08/10/2019 15:57

Love it! It's our choice for baby due in a few weeks.

icecreamsundae32 · 08/10/2019 15:57

I really like it. And can be Immy or Gen/Ginny? If you felt like shortening but I think it's beautiful as it is.

laughingnow · 08/10/2019 15:58

It’s a beautiful name. I have one, we call her Imo. Shakespearean, innit!

Grufallosfriends · 08/10/2019 16:05

I find it harsh and unfeminine. Don't like it at all, sorry.

Grufallosfriends · 08/10/2019 16:06

Immo isn't nice imo.

ImportantWater · 08/10/2019 16:09

I think it is pretty. I think Katy in What Katy Did had a friend called Imogen, that’s what it makes me think of. The Imogen I know goes by Immy.

finallychangedmyusername · 08/10/2019 16:26

Beautiful

MsMustDoBetter · 08/10/2019 16:27

It's really pretty.

MikeUniformMike · 08/10/2019 16:37

It's ok. It's Shakespearean.
Immy and Imo put me off it.
I would go for something like Louise as a middle name.

MrsReader · 08/10/2019 16:42

My 2nd fave girls name 💖

Winterlogs · 08/10/2019 16:52

I can't believe that ppl find it frumpy and clunky. I think it's very pretty, feminine and strong

NearLifeExperience · 08/10/2019 16:52

I’m another in the “ugly, clunky and frumpy” camp as regards Imogen, I’m afraid.

Reminds me of engine oil.

NellNorth · 08/10/2019 16:59

The one I know is called Midge, in Scotland. Unfortunate.

MissHenty · 08/10/2019 17:26

One of my absolute favourite names. Love it and not too cutesy like so many of the girls names nowerdays

For middle names how about

Mary
Edith
Emmy/Emma
Willa
Olive
Elodie
Maggie

@circlesandquares ?

MissHenty · 08/10/2019 17:26

Love all the nickname potentials - or just use it as it is

Perfect name

Ch3m · 08/10/2019 17:27

I have a one year old Imogen. Not my first choice to be honest but only one dp and I could agree on!

Kanga83 · 08/10/2019 17:30

Honestly, it's a name I hate. There was a school at school called Imogen that was just irritating beyond belief and it's stuck with me. Then theres Imogen Thomas.

Names I think that are similar but softer
Evelyn
Isobel
Beatrix
Eleanor

Kanga83 · 08/10/2019 17:31

Or if it's the Gen sound, how about Genevieve? Nn Ginny.

071019DD · 08/10/2019 17:31

It's just "ok" for me certainly not terrible but dont love it either. Good luck with the search!

MissHenty · 08/10/2019 17:32

@circlesandquares I really like it

But if not how about

Delilah
Margaret (Maggie)
Bonnie
Victoria
