What do you think of the name Imogen? Dh loves it! I think it's very pretty. Just wondering what general thoughts were. Also wondering what middle name would go with it?

Do not like it sorry. Twee, average but trying to actually sound pretentious.

PetraRabbit · 11/10/2019 11:28

I think it sounds quite German and it's a very "sensible girl's" name much like Harriet.

Grufallosfriends · 11/10/2019 11:46

German Confused?

It's definitely not a German name. Would be pronounced with a hard G and not sound nice at all!

Lavenderblues · 11/10/2019 11:51

Harsh and masculine sounding to my ears.

hanan246 · 11/10/2019 12:18

I think its lovely

Frith2013 · 12/10/2019 23:23

It’s nice but Immy/Immo etc are SO STUPID sounding.

foodname · 12/10/2019 23:32

I like it, it's a strong but clearly female name, so many girl names are twee. It's a name that carries well through life unlike so many cutesy names that are popular

NoSauce · 13/10/2019 07:10

Not keen either. Reminds me of a detergent for some reason and I can’t stand Immy.

MustardScreams · 13/10/2019 07:13

I love it! Classic name that won’t age or go out of fashion. Works well in all ages and isn’t cutesy or twee.

daisypond · 13/10/2019 07:45

I’m not keen on it, even though I think it’s a name I should like. I like that it doesn’t end an a cutesy ee sound and that it’s Shakespearean. But I always think “derived from a printer’s error and it should be Innogen”.

57Varieties · 13/10/2019 07:56

I can't believe that ppl find it frumpy and clunky. I think it's very pretty, feminine and strong

People have different tastes in names? It can’t be that unbelievable surely.

I find it just meh OP. No strong feelings one way or another but I certainly wouldn’t choose it. I also think it’s quite popular now.

cinnamonbun · 13/10/2019 08:18

I have a very beautiful, smart, funny and strong 7 year old called Imogen Rose.

cinnamonbun · 13/10/2019 08:19

However we do not call her Immy or any other variation, I do not like any of them and neither does she

ElphiasDoge · 13/10/2019 08:25

I think it’s lovely. I do know of 2 born in the last couple of months just in my little circle of people I know, maybe coincidence or maybe it’s due a surge.

Lavenderblues · 13/10/2019 08:28

Io don't like it. I think it's the sound of the three syllables that doesn't sound nice together - they don't flow beautifully. Hence it sounds clunky.

december20100 · 18/10/2019 15:14

Nice name, go for it

Shadow1234 · 18/10/2019 17:05

Lovely name.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 18/10/2019 17:09

I think it's a lovely name. I only know one and she is always called Imogen.

Lisajg23 · 18/10/2019 17:15

I think Imogen is very nice. And immy is lovely too x

DancingDancer · 18/10/2019 17:23

Love it!

MissHenty · 18/10/2019 17:46

@ElphiasDoge definitely just coincidence and not a large surge. The name has been declining in numbers every year for the past decade. It surged between 2005 and 2010

MissHenty · 18/10/2019 17:46

I think it’s a gorgeous name! So so lovely - can have a more playful nickname but is a lovely name for a grown woman

Pinkblueberry · 18/10/2019 17:51

I don’t mind it. I know someone with a DD called Imogen and was nicknamed Immy which I thought was cute.

DisappointingBanana · 19/10/2019 08:52

I remember someone once saying it sounded like a company name on an industrial estate and they're right

This^ 😂

WhoArtinHeaven · 19/10/2019 10:29

I think it's a really lovely name. Very popular though (if that is something of a consideration to you).

Also it doesn't have any particularly nice shortenings. Again that may not bother you!
