Could you give me some examples of 'preppy' boys names? But nothing tooooo out there or uppity sounding e.g. Tarquinius or Horatio would be way too much for us!

DS assures me that two of the boys at his Prep are named Hippo and Mustard. I suspect they may have alternative names on their birth certificates though.... 🤔

clarinstunic Josh is not, in any way, 'preppy'. Not round here in the South east anyway. Every other boy is called Josh.

user23415 · 25/09/2019 13:44

Josh, Chad and Brad are not at all preppy imo!

user23415 · 25/09/2019 13:46

These have 'preppy' feel to them imo:

Marcus
Quentin
Sebastian
Hector
Cassius
Raphael

I like them all actually.

Preppy people I know:

Andrew
Crispin
William (Wills)
Rupert
Ralph (pronounced the English way)
Benedict
Guy

MayaWhySoDown · 25/09/2019 14:36

Preppy rather than 'posh' to me, are names like:

Toby
John
Quentin
Orson
Otis
Lawrence / Laurence
Xavier
Rufus
Rowan

PinkOboe · 25/09/2019 14:42

this is such a disparate collection of names that i am convinced that, like me, no one had any idea whatsoever what preppy means

ladyratterley · 25/09/2019 14:47

I've had a think about the most preppy men I've know throughout my life. They were called the following:

Benjamin
Benedict
Peregrine
Rupert
Laurence
Louis
Frederick

evilharpy · 25/09/2019 14:55

Jonty (short for Jonathan)
Kit (short for Christopher)
Rupert
Tarquin

QuaterMiss · 25/09/2019 14:59

OP are you in the US? I’m not accustomed to the term ‘preppy’ being used in England - and most posters seem to be responding as if you had asked about ‘prep school’ which, here, means an independent school for children from around 7 or 8 to 13 years old.

PushkinTheCat · 25/09/2019 15:17

I would say:

Hugo
Rufus
Rupert
Rory
Sebastian
Julian
Hector
Timothy
Edmund (very rare, this)
Toby

PuppyMonkey · 25/09/2019 15:24
