Could you give me some examples of 'preppy' boys names? But nothing tooooo out there or uppity sounding e.g. Tarquinius or Horatio would be way too much for us!

OP posts:

This is one of those situations that says more about our prejudices than about other people. Judging people based on what their parents called them.

drumandthebass · 26/09/2019 08:47

Fizzy - love those names Wink

drumandthebass · 26/09/2019 08:53

Fizzy - I think you forgot Chunder

Pippilsngstrumpfi · 26/09/2019 09:36

Judging people based on what their parents called them.

But perhaps there's a correlation between parents' name choice and their parenting style?

Geronimo8 · 26/09/2019 09:38

Preppy is roughly the equivalent of posh in the US. Some of these names that would be considered chavvy here are preppy in the American South.

FizzyGreenWater · 26/09/2019 10:46

drumandthebass yes Chunder, I knew a very dashing Chunder from the yacht club, how could I forget!

His best friends were Boil and Grunt.

Any inspiration here yet, OP? :)

notso · 27/09/2019 07:47

@Goodebe I love the fact the father of one of those heavily named babies is Richard Richie. Richie Rich!!

Goodebe · 27/09/2019 08:28

HEavily named... brilliant!

Leflic · 27/09/2019 17:57

Zachery is definitely a trickled down name judging by the amount of Zacks I know.

My son has a name heavily featured on these lists and widely regarded as posh.. I heard his name screeched across Poundland the other day and was actually shocked as you seldom hear it. It doesn’t take long before the user friendly posh names ( as opposed to pretentious) become pretty humdrum.

elephantmarch · 27/09/2019 19:15

First name doesn’t matter. if They are preppy they will be known by their surname with a y on the end!
