Winifred

Thoughts on Winifred shortened to Winnie.

I imagine most won't like it but I can just picture a little toddler Winifred. Not sure it would be liked as a teenager but Winnie surely wouldn't stand out amongst the Connie's, Millie's, Frankie's etc

Please dont.

AverageMummy · 12/09/2019 16:16

I don’t particularly like it but I agree it won’t be out of place

Whenaretheholidaysover · 12/09/2019 16:16

Not keen at all sorry.

ClaraThePigeon · 12/09/2019 16:20

It's awful

PotteringAlong · 12/09/2019 16:22

The witch?

annyf · 12/09/2019 16:29

Bloody awful! Why not just Winnie? It’s my cousin’s name and she’s lovely. x

user1493494961 · 12/09/2019 16:30

Not keen.

AverageMummy · 12/09/2019 16:30

Guinevere would work too

FrownPrincess · 12/09/2019 16:31

I can picture a toddler Winifred wearing a bobbly brown cardigan and an over-long tweed skirt with thick tights and brogues ... please choose another name !

LarkDescending · 12/09/2019 16:31

My gg-grandmother's name (b 1886 and she thought it frumpy even then - went by an unrelated nn).

I really dislike it, sorry. But no doubt there will be a few around, with sisters named Millicent and Maud. Each to their own, but not my style.

MissTicPizza · 12/09/2019 16:32

Well I like it! I had a Great Aunty Winnifred. She used to get called Win/Winnie by her family but apparently her friends called her Fred.

AverageMummy · 12/09/2019 16:33

Arwen, Elowen and Rowena would all work for Winnie too
Elowen is pretty

TheBeesKnee · 12/09/2019 16:33

Old school "granny" names are making a comeback so I don't think it'll be out of place Smile

MissTicPizza · 12/09/2019 16:33

Fern Britton's daughter is called Winnie.

WutheringFrights · 12/09/2019 16:34

If I had had another Dd she would have been a Winifred. Both my grannies were Winifreds! I like it!

HepzibahGreen · 12/09/2019 16:34

I bloody love it! It makes me think of a plucky WAF in the War in red lipstick and a uniform. I can also picture a very cool 17 year old Winifred. She could be Winnie or Freddie too. Do it!
Also, Winnie the witch is ace.

Cyberworrier · 12/09/2019 16:35

I like Winifred! Have to admit I’m not so keen on Winnie, but I like Freddie for a girl as a nn. Or Win, as PPs great aunt!

FlashAHHHH · 12/09/2019 16:35

Winifred is awful. Winnie, it's cute but kids might start calling her Poo which wouldn't be nice for her.

Spoonsmum · 12/09/2019 16:36

I wanted Winnie but was overruled. I love that name.

MissHenty · 12/09/2019 16:44

In so shocked people don’t like this name. Don’t listen Op. go for it

sunshine5997 · 12/09/2019 16:45

I love the name! Go for it OP

ladycarlotta · 12/09/2019 16:56

I think it's lovely. I wouldn't choose it myself but I think it's kooky and sweet and if someone I knew called their child that I'd definitely be quite impressed! Can totally picture a little Winifred.

Drogosnextwife · 12/09/2019 17:06

That's my mums name, with the shortened version used as her name. I really wouldn't.

ClaraThePigeon · 12/09/2019 17:11

In so shocked people don’t like this name. Don’t listen Op. go for i

Why are you shocked? It's hideous. And who are you to tell the OP who to ignore?

IHaveBrilloHair · 12/09/2019 17:12

Terrible.
