I've loved this name for as long as I remember. Just putting the feelers out to see what others think. Surname would also begin with a G.

Like Galatia... as in the New Testament?

It has quite a nice sound to it but I wouldn’t choose it.

Windydaysuponus · 25/08/2019 20:34

Sounds like Galaxy or Gateaux!

BikeRunSki · 25/08/2019 20:35

Sounds Science Fictiony to me.

Kyvia · 25/08/2019 20:36

I think it sounds like it would be a brand of hippy herbal teas or something. I’d be polite though and ask how to pronounce it before attempting it myself because I wouldn’t be sure.

Where have you heard it from?

NannyR · 25/08/2019 20:38

How do you pronounce it?

SheRaTheAllPowerful · 25/08/2019 20:39

Galina is Italian for chicken I know your name is different but that’s the first thing that popped in my head, that and I fancy a cuppa

bigmap · 25/08/2019 20:40

Reminds me of the cheese brand Galtee. And the child would be called 'Gala' from about 4 days old

EmmiJay · 25/08/2019 20:43

I like it. Sounds like the name of someone whos mischievous and cheeky.

Guessmydog · 25/08/2019 20:44

Its pronounced gal-a-teh-uh.

Honestly, I can't remember where I first heard it, but it is a greek name.

Condemming your child to a lifetime.of spelling their name. Every..Single..Time.
Why?

Comedyusername · 25/08/2019 20:45

I think you might be setting your child up with a lifetime of "how do you spell that?" and "how do you pronounce that?"

Guessmydog · 25/08/2019 20:45

Nickname would probably be gal, which I really like also.

Jamhandprints · 25/08/2019 20:46

How do you say it? So many options I can't think how it would be said.

Divgirl2 · 25/08/2019 20:46

Made me think of ice cream.

As a name I hate it.

AndromedaPerseus · 25/08/2019 20:47

Galatea was King Pygmalion’s muse in Greek mythology

AwkwardSquad · 25/08/2019 20:49

I think it’s lovely.

Jubba · 25/08/2019 20:49

As someone who has to spell her name every single time. And have everyone mispronounce it. And have it spelt wrong on letters and all sorts

Don’t give your child a name that’s hard to spell.

EgremontRusset · 25/08/2019 20:49

Like Gala Brand in the Moonraker (James Bond) novel. Top woman. Do it!

user1493494961 · 25/08/2019 20:49

Sounds like something from Dr. Who, it's a no from me.

Jamhandprints · 25/08/2019 20:50

Oh I just saw your *Its pronounced gal-a-teh-uh

But which syllable is stressed? And what do you mean teh-uh? Like "tay er"?

Scissor · 25/08/2019 20:51

It's a Dr Who episode from 2015. The leader of the Femdroids. Think we may all step away and talk about biscuits ..I made some Anzac ones using Mary Berries recipe, rather lovely

NannyR · 25/08/2019 20:52

I think you would have a lot on pronunciation issues, not necessarily with family and friends who would know how you say ir, but with situations like at school where someone sees her name on a register/list and has to work out the pronunciation.
I've never heard of it, but I can think of many different ways that group of letters could be pronounced.

kenandbarbie · 25/08/2019 20:53

Is she from marvel or dc?

orangeshoebox · 25/08/2019 20:54

I have a calathea plant
it's rather pretty.

Guessmydog · 25/08/2019 20:56

Ahh right, like gal-a-TEY-ah, if that makes more sense. I actually thought this was an easy name to pronounce from its spelling 😂

AndromedaPerseus is right.
