Name you loved but it was just too quirky?

Is there a name you didn’t use because it was just too quirky or “out there” but still love?

I loved Starr, Juniper and Skye, DH vetoed! (Don’t even think those are that quirky, tbh.)

I always loved Romeo, way before the Beckhams used it.

Sufjan, after the singer. Still love it but he'd spend his whole life telling people how to spell/pronounce it ("soof-yan" for anyone curious).
Also Inigo (not Indigo), as in Jones. But figured he'd spend his life having "My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." quoted at him.
And Augustus but DH doesn't like "Gus" as a NN.
There are some beautiful names on here!

Shulamith. Severine. Kenneret.

Leonid. Abelard.

Shulamith is number one, though. God, I love that name.

Partway through pregnancy I really, really wanted to name my son Beowulf.

Decided not to as I was concerned that it could cause some bullying.

Still think that it would have been pretty cool.

I love the name Mercedes for a girl. But too many people would just think of the car.

Moss

I've seen my daughters name on this thread 😍

Bowie - just not brave enough (also a massive fan)
Indiana for a boy, I know of a couple and they're both girls so has put me off.
Torbin - too difficult to say with our surname.

Lumi for a girl.. I’ve got a feeling it’ll get popular in years to come, but I think I’m not cool enough to use it!

That should be Loveday

Tallsocks · 19/08/2019 14:38

Sloan, Poppy, Sailer, Piper. I love them all but just can't pull the trigger to use them

Stella. DH said it reminded him of lager.

Stella. DH said it reminded him of lager.

My niece is called Stella. She is 15. Her parents had a very small number of “larger” comments when she was a baby, mostly initiated by them*. The late teen might be a bit silly, but there are worse things to worry about.

DSis’s very quiet Muslim friend; Whatvis your baby called, she’s beautiful.
DSis: Stella
Friend: That’s lovely, does she have a middle name
DSis (always the joker): Artois
Friend (totally unaware): That’s gorgeous, how unusual....

I absolutely don't understand the love for weekdays or name months as a human name though, I'd like to hear the posters explain why they think calling their child Tuesday or Wednesday is any better or makes any more sense than calling the child Calendar, or Umbrella 🤔, for instance.

Wednesday I could kind of understand, for the Addams family fans, though even then, why? You are a fan of some show and you make your child's whole life about it. Hmm

Just get a cat or a fancy rat and name that by the character in the show, let your child live an independent life of their own, or at least stick your fanatism into their middle name if you have to. It's you who is the fan after all, go and change your own name by deed poll to Yesterday ;)

Stella. DH said it reminded him of lager.

You can guess people’s lifestyles by their name associations - mine for Stella is - Philip Sidney, Stella Gibbons, Stella Tillyard and Stella by Starlight.

Aspen was my chosen name for DD but we were too chicken to use it and went much more traditional. I do love Juniper but wouldn't have the balls to use it.
