Name you loved but it was just too quirky?

Is there a name you didn’t use because it was just too quirky or “out there” but still love?

I loved Starr, Juniper and Skye, DH vetoed! (Don’t even think those are that quirky, tbh.)

Not too quirky but didn’t end up top on the list and being a little unusual was a factor in this- Clancy, Abraham.

Phaedra and Persephone. Didn’t have a chance with DH...

We're too much of a wimp to use as first name so used it as a middle name.

Euphemia (nn: Euphy). I loved it but DH vetoed it because it was named after a TV character 😂🙈 even though it was also the name of one of his great great aunts so I tried to claim a family connection!

@whatausername my ds has two friends with your name choices! Very multicultural school.

We nearly went for Ieuan but our last name is Ware so he'd have been Ieuan Ware sounded too much like ironware.
Trust me, as a teacher we all laugh at the stupid names parents give their kids. We've just had a good laugh at Tallulah who's just started, and still think the name Ocean is stupid. Quirky names are for cats, not children.

Rialta - it’s Italian and reminded me of Venice. But then someone pointed out that it’s a type of motor home.

Twyla - reminded me of twilight.

Sunniva - I thought Sunni would be a lovely nickname. But apparently it’s actually pronounced SOON-ee-va.

Esmeralda - I loved this one as a child.

We went for something pretty far out anyway though lol

On the all inclusive holiday we've just been to our room's cleaner's name was Hortensia (I think she was from the Philippines).
I think it sounds pretty but it just means hydrangea in many European languages, I kept thinking of the maid as Hydrangea all the time, I think it'd put me off using it as a name (though it's a nice enough blossoming bush)

Poor twins still have no names, and lots of people hoping we rule out Ignatius and Icarus....

Also, what's wrong or out there with Tallulah?? I know of so many I assumed it's pretty mainstream...Smoorbs for me Tallulah sounds way better than another Olivia or Millie, I just feel like dying of boredom when I hear of a new baby named like that.

Only one poster mentioned at least using the desired name as a middle name, not so few people end up as adults being known by their middle name, look at Boris. I definitely would have done it if pined for a name but thought it'd make the child's name difficult.
Why not do that?

Ignatius I kind of like, because I have a friend called that, but he's a monk :) He used to be Andrew.

Icarus met a bad end so I wouldn't due to the weight of mythological connotations.

On balance, I think another Oliver or Olivia is better than something very weird, unpronounceable, obviously made up and doesn't even sound beautiful.
Or too pretentious or is also a name for a random object or phenomena, which doesn't even create any pleasant associations for people when they first hear it.

@Yestermo I guess those names are Vadim and Yahya but I really hope one of them is actually Hatshepshut bc I love it so much I am super white British as is most of my village and I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable using names so clearly (currently anyway) from different cultures. Instead I admire them and am glad others get to have such pretty names!

Oh and Itohan. A client had the name Itohan and it's gorgeous.

Xanthe - I loved it for a girl but sadly DP hated it 😣. It's such a pretty name and I now see it lots, now it's on my radar.

Ariadne (didn't like any of the potential nicknames, and a four syllable name is bound to get shortened).

I loved the name Tex but had a girl
When I was pregnant my friend named the bump Lionel as a laugh but it weirdly grew on me. Probably lucky I had a girl to be honest .

@Rainbowknickers My DS middle name is Job. It's a name that runs right through DH's family tree and I've grown to totally love it!

I also like Wednesday whoever else said that.

I had no chance for for a out there name though one of my cousins is called Arizona
