Name you loved but it was just too quirky?

Is there a name you didn’t use because it was just too quirky or “out there” but still love?

I loved Starr, Juniper and Skye, DH vetoed! (Don’t even think those are that quirky, tbh.)

I walked around chanting Feodor when I was pg with DS for about a month. Then I switched to Wolfie. DS has a name on this thread but not either of those. I also liked Boris for baby no 1 (who turned out to be a girl) - so glad we didn’t go for that! BJ wasn’t particularly on my radar 8 years ago and I was thinking Boris in Appassionata.

For DD I liked Lettice/Letitia or Loveday, but DH vetoed them.

The name I really like but wouldn’t ever use is Hunter. It’s often described as the c....y word that people take offence at and I’m a traditional name kind of person really with this one guilty exception.
I have a child with a name that’s been mentioned a few times on this thread though!

@Smoorbs...gosh don’t you sound like a true delight! Laughing at your children’s names?? Wow. You should advertise that!

I'm a teacher. I certainly don't laugh at children's names. In fact, once I've checked I'm saying and spelling them right I hardly even notice they're unusual. (Unless I'm adding them to my list of names I love!) I'd hope smoorbs is an anomaly in the teaching profession

@Emthebaker I love Lumi! It’s on my list. So is Luma, which has a very different origin but is equally beautiful. In the same vein, I love Valo for a girl but I doubt I would ever have the balls to use it.

Oh, and I’m another teacher who doesn’t laugh at kids’ names. Gets a bit boring when every other child is named Joe or Jessica though.

I loved Scarlet, which isn’t out there, but I thought it was a very vivacious name and thought that if she turned out to be a shy nervous wallflower would be quite a name to live up to. I also realised it was what I wanted to be called.

On the teacher thing - I did work experience at a school when I was at university (considered a PGCE) and, in the staffroom, one or two of the teachers ripped into the kids - gossiping about them and their home life - and their names. I left thinking what a horrible bunch - but (only know this after looking back), it was a pretty crap school so the teachers were probably unhappy in their jobs there. (I also got told off for using my regional accent around the kids ) this was 20 years ago. And right put me off teaching. (I sort of wish it hadn’t now!)

So many beautiful names on here though!

I love Etoile which is 'star' in French. I don't think I could use it as a name but I do think it's pretty.

OH vetoed Wren for me. Love it. Not even that quirky IMO... 😔

Nash. I have always loved it. DH vetoed it so I’m using for a character on my book instead!!!

I love Briar (as in Briar Rose, the Scottish version of Sleeping Beauty) for a girl but couldn’t ever use it as I just know everyone would misread it as Brian

Ariadne. Doesn’t work for a girl from Yorkshire 😂

I love Briar, it’s my daughter’s middle name. No-one has misread it as Brian actually.
