Name you loved but it was just too quirky?

Is there a name you didn’t use because it was just too quirky or “out there” but still love?

I loved Starr, Juniper and Skye, DH vetoed! (Don’t even think those are that quirky, tbh.)

Wow I have never actually heard of anyone using it, that’s great! Pretty sure DH would have vetoed it if I had suggested it anyway Hmm

lottieleo · 22/08/2019 17:14

Not horrendous quirky but Sunday for a boy

My husbands Nigerian and said back home Sunday is a old mans name so it would be like using the name Keith pft

WillaDaPeephole · 22/08/2019 17:19

I love Winter for a girl, but it really doesn’t work with our surname.

Namechangeymcnamechange11 · 22/08/2019 17:25

Atticus
Abraham

Still quite tempted if we had another boy(s) but not sure I'd be brave enough.

Cohle · 22/08/2019 17:29

Malachi

I just love the sound of it. DH was Hmm though.

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 22/08/2019 17:41

Euphemia. Everyone else thinks it's completely awful.

TatianaLarina · 22/08/2019 19:25

I have a friend called Malachi.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 22/08/2019 19:53

I love:
Athena
Titania
Bathsheba
Hephzibar
Jolene
Marina
Luciana
Minerva
Demeter
Thisbe
Erik
Marius
Apollo

Mainly girl names, because I'm quite traditional with boy names. But I do like a bit of Greek mythology, one of my favourite lessons at school was Classical Studies Grin

MissPepper8 · 22/08/2019 20:10

Expecting March next year, DH and me like Bear but my parents said we can't call baby that (if it is a boy, not finding out) cause people will ask if he shits in the woods :/

This is why DS name wasn't shared until he was born

Cathyheathcliff · 23/08/2019 23:41

Cyan, Emrys and Tulip were vetoed for being a bit too quirky. Still love them though.

highheelsandbobblehats · 24/08/2019 00:53

Neo (Matrix)
Bauer (yes, as in Jack)
Kennedy (which I self vetoed on reading that the meaning was 'ugly head')

I have two boys. Both have traditional top 20 for the last 50 years names, but miraculously in their double intake school, have managed to be the only ones in their years with their names.

For girls we had Edie and Isabel picked respectively, but I think I'd be braver now that I'm older and have Persephone if we had a girl now (we're done).

WillowLeClerc · 24/08/2019 10:29

Loveday, Ariadne and Xanthe were all unfortunately vetoed by DH though I do love DD’s name.

If DD had been a boy, Rupert would have been very high on the list. It’s a tough one though...her personality would have really suited it. Roo bouncing around everywhere! DS on the other hand really wouldn’t have suited it and by the point you realise that there’s a mismatch between name and personality there isn’t much you can do about it.

DS’s name I’d wanted for a son ever since my early teens and I never had any doubts-though it’s much more popular now than it was back then.

Larlarleighlee · 24/08/2019 10:37

Nextphonewontbesamsung just when u said about your old beetle car being call cosmo you dont happen to live in london area by any chance if so then i think i know you lol.

CloudyVanilla · 24/08/2019 21:18

For me I love but probably wouldn’t use:

Loveday
Starling
Meadow

Also have some names that I genuinely love but would not use them - not necessarily that they’re quirky as such, but just wouldn’t:

Virginia
Seraphina
Delphine

Youwantshoesinashoeshop · 24/08/2019 22:53

Gabriel for my son.
Anouk for my daughter. They both have lovely names which suit them but the would equslly have suited these vetoed names.
If i had another one, they would be Cashiel (boy) or Lika (girl). But I'm over and out on that front!

Cassandrainthenight · 25/08/2019 15:04

How is Gabriel too quirky? 🤔

Cassandrainthenight · 25/08/2019 15:06

Namechangeymcnamechange11

Atticus I kind of see some appeal but peers are bound to shorten it to Attic? 🙄

Abraham I think others would think it implies Jewish or Muslim heritage.

AverageAvenger · 25/08/2019 23:55

Loveday

Fenner

ThighThighOfthigh · 26/08/2019 08:22

I love Maximilian but felt it was too long and too much. I regret not using it but ds is such a sensible person, he'd have hated it.

milliefiori · 26/08/2019 09:17

Ah @ThighThighofthigh Maximilian is a great name. Love it.

DerbyshireGirly · 26/08/2019 09:47

I love Estella but not sure if it's a little too "unusual".

Cassandrainthenight · 26/08/2019 16:45

I know a 5 year old Estella, it suits her (she's half Spanish)
I thought it is a perfect alternative for those who like Stella but are put off by beer associations :)

Ilikeanimalsmorethanpeople · 26/08/2019 16:57

@Nextphonewontbesamsung my mum wanted to call me this but it got veoted by my dad!

mumtobe1984 · 28/08/2019 22:30

These were my 'out there names' (depends on the individuals opinion) that I'm not going to use:

Melody
Koa
Kenickie
Wynter
Stormi
Rocky
Striker
Harlow
Vogue
Honey
Hero
Indigo
Bear
Milo
Ryder

So many possibilities but do I want to do this to my kid?! Grin

Xx

Greengreen88 · 28/08/2019 23:55

I love Indigo!
